Cab restoration

When removing the cab during restoration, is it safe to lay it on the rear cab wall. I was planning on getting some dense foam insulation like used on a house. Laying that on my garage floor then setting the cab on it back on that. Any suggestions?
thanks

Longhorn Man 03-22-2002 09:45 PM

On the foam should be ok...just keep the kids out of it, and DON'T DROP IT!!!
Some one on here recently dropped theres like that. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/frown.gif bummer huh?

Thanks, I am only 21 and no kids. I planned on making a "sub-frame" to attach to the bottom of the cab then use my chain hoist and chain to rotate, then lower the cab. Thanks again

Sounds like some work there...you got any friends? 4 ppl should be able to do this no problem.

Sounds like a good reason to call on some fellow Board Members. Anybody around Efland that can lend some muscle? I'm sure you will get some responses, if not, try posting another thread calling out NC members. I live in Indiana, otherwise I'd be glad to help. Good Luck!!

wanna talk about dropping trucks? my friend was trying to jump off my 71 the day i got it(bad battery terminals) with his 51 chevy on jack stands, he hoked upthe cables and cranked it up, it was in reverse, the str8 axle hit he concrete from lije 2 1/2 feet up, he thought he bent his axle but i had o show him that it wsa made like that, he hasnt started it since i think, that was like a year ago, he neds to get off his ass and work on it

Benrs86 03-24-2002 10:43 PM

2 2 by 6s put themgoing straigh up about 2 feet apart parallel going up the back of the cab. then nail a short 2x6 under the bottom lip of the back of the cab to the standing up ones. then put a strap holding htem to the cab so it is tight. then pull back slowly. like a big lever. make sure they stick out of the bottom of the cab enogh. osrry need a picture. good luck, BEn
