identify rear carrier
2 Attachment(s)
I need help to identify this carrier. All I know is that it is a 10 bolt from a '56 chevy 3200. This was a farm truck, and I don't know if this is the original rear end. I didn't notice any numbers on the housing. The only numbers I found on the carrier are AG 606, you can see it in the picture. My searches come up with agriculture parts. Thanks for any help. Great site by the way, I've gotten lots of info from posts.
Attachment 509539 I found another stamping after cleaning up the carrier some more. These numbers seem to indicate an early chevy rearend, but are hard to read. I'm making them out to be 3707640. At least now it looks like this may be the original rear end. And after searching posts some more it seems that it is normal for the housing to not have numbers. It seems I answered my own question. If anyone has anything to add feel free. Attachment 509587 |
Re: identify rear carrier
Ypu pretty much have it ID'd
56 10 bolt 1/2 ton rear. It was original to the truck. On the ring gear there will be other numbers. Part number 6 or 8 digits and ratio numbers in the form of 43-11 or the like. |
Re: identify rear carrier
The 6 D 1 casting in your photo below the part number means:
6 = 1956 D= April (A=Jan, etc. O is skipped to avoid confusion with zero) 1= 1st day of the month Some have a fourth digit that designates the shift of the day. It was used for quality control not so 50 years later we could confirm numbers matching parts. |
Re: identify rear carrier
Thanks for the great info. This will make it easier to get it rebuilt.
