Progress pics of my '64

Ok guys I have the front suspension more or less done(needs shocks and alignment). The springs are 3" drop springs, and the lower control arms have been stepped 1-1/2", along with new ball-joints and tie-rod ends. The outer tie-rods are flipped to relieve the angle, with heim-joint rod ends. I think it should work really well for an old-school static drop. Whaddya think?
By the way, wheels are 15x6 smoothies, tires are 205/75s. I just put the new wheels and tires on, one of the old ones went completely flat... which was the perfect scrub-line test... and it passed with flying colors. ;) |

I like the st drop. |
Re: Progress pics of my '64
Nice job...what did you use for the heim joint tie rod end? I may have to use that idea:metal:

Re: Progress pics of my '64
For the heim TREs I drilled and tapped the steering arm for 5/8"-18. Then I used 5/8" heim rod-ends, with 5/8"-18 left hand thread with misalignment spacers and a safety washer. To hold it all together I used a Grade 9 5/8-18 bolt with a shoulder(so the heim is on the shoulder and not on the threads), threaded into the steering arm, with a washer and a locking jam-nut on top. From the top down it is stacked as follows:
jam nut washer steering arm misalignment spacer heim joint misalignment spacer safety washer I got everything from Ballistic Fabrication. The rod ends are sealed and self-lubricating. Thanks for the kind words! I just took it for a short drive and everything seems to work really well! The truck doesn't look like much but mechanically there is light at the end of the tunnel. |

Here are some better pics, and how it sits compared to my Mustang GT.

Re: Progress pics of my '64
Mxmaniac did you do the stepping on the lower arms? If you did do you have any pic's of the process? I'm interested in how it was done. The stance of your truck looks good. How much did you lower the front & the back? Thanks Verndki:uhmk:

Re: Progress pics of my '64
Yep, I stepped the control arms myself. I've got pics of the entire process over in the suspension forum. Here's a link:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=335167 The front is 1-1/2" stepped control arms + 3" springs for a theoretical total of 4-1/2" drop. I haven't touched the rear suspension yet, so that's the reason for all the rake. I think for the rear I'm going to use manual-fill air bags, with lowering blocks and a bolt in c-notch. |

Mxmaniac I looked at your thread on the control arms. I must say I'm impressed with your welding ability, very nice smooth looking welds. You may very well become a pioneer in stepping control arms, they sure look stout to me. Keep the progress & pic's coming as you work out the bugs.Thanx---Vernski:cool:
