Winch mount bumpers for a 70

Does anyone make one that is easily available? Or am I stuck with having one made?

I have been looking for options for my 59. I did a site search and came up with a couple of threads that discussed different aftermarket and owner fabricated setups. I'm going to run an old Sidewinder winch that uses a frame mount. Originally they had a fairlead cut into the stock bumper, I am going to mount mine below it.

I am guessing it is off to shop class if I want to mount a winch.

Good idea that way you can move it from front to back depending on which way you need to pull.

Hey A. (Diesel Eater),
any chance of seeing some pics of how you attached the front receiver to your frame?? Sure would appreciate seeing how its done so I can give it a try for my winch attachment.

I already have a Ramsey REP 8000 mounted to a 3/8 plate with fairlead attached, that's welded to a length of 2x2 square stock. I used to plug it into the hitch on the back of my Grand Cherokee. I had run #2 welding cable through the frame and had a quick connect plug sitting back there for the winch. Just re-found the winch it in the garage and was thinking it would work up front on the K20?

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

Craigslist - you'll have to modify it but it would be a great start.

Sorry for the obtuse answer. I just meant look on Craigslist in your area. I am assuming shipping would be a deal breaker but there are several in the Dallas area.

They would all take a little modification, but you get the idea.

Re: Winch mount bumpers for a 70

Thanks Big-Blue,
I'm looking for a FRONT winch bumper though. Those new companies don't make them for my year trucks, 67-72, so I'll be looking for a used bumper in good shape or a 'custom built' one that will fit 68-72 4x4.

But thanks anyway!

Re: Winch mount bumpers for a 70

The last two I posted are front bumpers but you are missing the point. These are not going to be direct bolt-ups. You are going to have to modify them slightly. If you find the right one, it may be as simple as cutting off the ends, sectioning, and then welding back together. The mounts will no doubt have to be adjusted but I am sure this all could be done for a couple hundred bucks, hopefully less, at a welding shop. If you can weld, all the better and it will be kind of fun, except these things are pretty heavy!

This would be much cheaper than starting from scratch, and probably look tons better too.

Check out Craigslist in your area as the ones I posted were just a fraction of the ones out there!

Here's a guy in Waco who will build one from scratch, but I bet any decent custom will end up over $1000...It's common to find those Ranch Hands starting at $2000..

Good luck and post what you end up doing!

Here is a few pics of my not so stock set up. The bumper brackets are custom made from angle iron (not nearly as nice as VT's!) and I also beefed up the frame area as well with some angle iron. The class 4 recievers are mounted between the frame rails, the rear is out of a '97 Dodge 3/4, not sure what the front is out of. I like the look of them tucked right up there plus moving the winch is a nice option as well.

Also I guess I should mention the PO cut the frame horns off so I had a blank canvas to work with!

Here you go..
