Slot lovers unite!
5 Attachment(s)
I've seen several posts lately where opinions on vintage style aluminum slotted mags (AKA; ansen sprints) were expressed. I understand why some folks consider them too old school, or dated, but I grew up seeing these things on just about everything moving. When I was a kid, they were a constant in the pages of the Hot rod magazines. Therefore I blame my inordinate affection for these old wheels on my raising. I guess my parents should have kept me away from my uncles' race cars and garage. Oh well. I've had several sets on all sorts of vehicles and loved the way they looked on them all. So Now I have a 68 short stepside with 6 lug axles, and just picked up a set of old jeep wheels that are made just like slots. I also have another set that are newer and have the clear coating that needs to be removed, so I'll be using these for now. They were pretty bad to start with but with a little elbow grease, they are coming around. Hope to get the tires mounted up this week and then on the truck.
So If you have slots:metal: and please post your pics in a show of solidarity. Attachment 514382 Attachment 514383 Attachment 514384 Attachment 514388 Attachment 514389 |

Re: Slot lovers unite!
Totally with you! Old school...... yes. Dated ......yes. But that just adds to the coolness of them.
Slots and Cragars have a soft spot with me. |
Re: Slot lovers unite!
I love them.

Re: Slot lovers unite!
Thanks for the pic Kevin...I love it.
The process is not hard...just hard work. 1st. clean em up. I used oven cleaner and a scotch brite this time. followed with sos pad to get the cleaner off and any left over crud. 2nd. take care of any bumps and scars with agressive sanding. I had to use a file on the lips of a couple. 3rd. start sanding with 600 grit then graduate to 1000, then 1500, then 2000. If you have a set thats not scared up like these you may be able to go strait to 1000. Usually don't have to spend alot of time with each grade, just enound to remove a fine layer of oxidized metal. The 2000 grit will tell the tale. And then your ready to polish. 4th. I used a buffer with fine cut compound and a sprinkle of water, then followed it with "mother's" on a cloth. could use a "powerball" if you have it. That might even work better. that's it. It takes a little time, but I love to take something that looks used up and bring it back. Keep the pics coming, I know you got em |

Re: Slot lovers unite!
The great thing about old trucks is you can fix it like YOU want, not how the guy at the show wants, the guy at work wants or how the kid at McDonalds wants. I am planning on putting a set of 17x8 Ansens on my latest project, a 72 sbw step if I ever get that far, but I am not looking forward to $165 a piece! If I can find some used 15 x 8's for about half that, I will "settle" for 15's. I am going for the mid 70's vibe on it with M/T valvecovers on the 350, a Sun Super Tach II attached to the column with a hose clamp, a barefoor gas pedal and foam grip 10" Cal Custon steering wheel in addition to the mags. I already have the tach VC's and wheel, just need the mags. Why this kinda build? Cause I like it.

I am unsure of the brand on these, but i know they are fairly old. These have the "machine turned" surface.

Re: Slot lovers unite!
Kevin, say it isn't so! the 17" Ansens are discontinued??? Now that sucks!
I just almost dropped the hammer on a set of those for my stepper last year. they are period correct..... many people don't like them, but I looooooove them! |
Re: Slot lovers unite!
Yep. I sat down tonight to order a set of 17 inch slots or even 15 inch slots. All of the 5 lug truck pattern slot mags are discontinued.
Since your truck is 6 lug, I think they are still available for your application. |
Re: Slot lovers unite!
I think you can still get 17" 6 bolt through stocton wheel:chevy:

Re: Slot lovers unite!
Tex why does it say you are offline?:chevy:

Re: Slot lovers unite!
I just looked at the Ansens for 6 lug applications. The only size options are 15x7 and 17x7. Nothing wider. That's at Jegs. Can't find any 6 lugs at Summit.
