N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I put in some rhino liner in the bed of my truck about a month ago and followed all tha steps when installing to a tee!! and it turned out PERFECT!! :ennyd:just how I thought it would look and feel. Well that was last month and I made sure not to put n e thing in the bed 4 at least a week so it would cure properly and actually i really didnt put n e thing in the bed except my spare tire all tha way until last week when I was moving, When surprise, surprise!!! that second I put something in there that weighs more them 20lbs, it scratches and chips and peeled right off! needless to say i am not happy with it now as it is just an eye sore with missing chips and wut not through out the entire bed:censored: I just wanted to know if there is n e one else on tha forum that has had n e thing similar happen to them in tha past with this product or something similar, I E: Line X, Duplicolor.

You did this yourself? Sounds like it wasn't prepped properly I've used the roll on stuff with pretty good success. Actually I've worn through it before it flaked off.

Yea I did do it myself and like i said i literially went out of my way to follow ALL tha steps perfectly so this would not happen!! I already 4got all tha steps but i prepped, prepped, and prepped everything sanded tha bed cleaned it with a solution, taped everything off and everything and now im really dissapointed with the end result!

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

When I turned 18, I bought a brand new 2000 S-10. I used the duplicolor roll-on, and it did the same thing. Frustrated, I scraped it all off and tried it again. The second time, I used a 5" angle grinder with scotch-brite pads and removed most of the paint. I then applied the bed coating, using 1 1/2 gallons (it was a step side). I can't remember exactly how many coats I put on, but I know how much I used. I then waited a week, or so, to let it cure, and it still hasn't chipped. IMHO, it is just like a paint job, prep is everything. Make sure every square inch is scuffed up, and wipe down with paint thinner before applying. Any dirt, dust, grease, water, or smooth paint will not allow it to adhere properly. Also, wear gloves to keep your hands from drying out and fingerprint grease off of it. You could possibly rescuff the areas that it did peel, but that will become a never ending process, so I would just try again, at least with the bed floor and tubs.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I agree with what has been said here. The key to bedliner sticking is the "mechanical adhesion", in other words...it's being able to get into some good scratches and hold there. If you did not have it sanded coarse enough, or completely enough, it will not stick.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I sanded it first with an angle grinder with 100 grit then with 80 grit THEN sanded it last by hand with 100 grit and 80 grit agian the whole prep in tha bed was started at 9 o' clock and tha prep was finished at 2 or 3 o'clock so a good 5 to 6 hours was tha prep including sandind with both grits with an angle grinder and then agian to finish it off by hand with tha same grits then prepped agian with solution wearin gloves and making sure not to touch n e thing with my hands. waited double tha time 4 it 2 cure and idk y it didnt work!

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

i'm pretty sure 40 or 60 grit should have been used. I doubt 80 grit is coarse enough for proper adhesion. I am not saying you didnt follow instructions, but 80 grit does not leave enough scratches in my opinion.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

So you installed the name brand Rhino Liner yourself...or did you use an over-the-counter application and you are referring to it as Rhino Liner? From what I have seen and heard, the over-the-counter stuff pretty much sucks. I thought the only way to get a Rhino Liner or Line-X liner was to go to a dealer and have them installed.

I've used Herculiner in a CJ5 tub before. Really didn't try too hard to prep it and it held up great for several years. I beat the heck out of it hauling wood and dead deer around. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I do not like the looks of most of the Rhino liner installs as much as I do the Line-X. I have Line-X in my truck and had it installed in Nashville and looks perfect. Also had Line-X Extra protection installed and has not faded at all. Looks as good as the day it was installed. I did not know you could get Rhino in a can. My two cents is to go with Line-X.

It is worth getting the Line-X Extra Spray in protection also. Keeps your spray in bed liner looking new. On reviews, Line-X comes in as the one to get.

in the 79,i have a spray in done by the local chevy dealer.it resembles a line x.iv'e had rhino and line x both in some of my daily drivers.i prefer the look of linex.the rhino look's like cottage cheese dyed black.i suppose it depends on who's doing the application.i know they scratch the crap out of it with i believe 40 grit.to give it some bite.i get lot's of compliments on the 79 liner which i had put up on the rail.anything you see is a reflection, the liner is perfect.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

The do-it-yourself Rhino Liner is garbage. Prep all you want, it'll still chip and peel off. I used it in my 98 that I had and the same happened to me. It just doesn't hold up. I am trying the Duplicolor liner this time. We'll see what happens.

Also, I was going to look into Al's Liner. It is a do-it-yourself spray in for less than half the cost of Line-X. Looks to be about $150-$175 for 1 gallon of liner and the spray gun. Not bad in my book if it turns out to be a good product.

The Raptor is about the same price with a gun.

in 2006 i took a brand new truck to the rhino liner dealer gave him my 500 bucks he did a great job which was guaranteed for the life of the truck.while im all for saving money in this case your not saving anything.some things are best left to professionals.i do agree that line-x looks better but rhino works great anything i put in that bed stayed put nothing slides around well on rhino liner its thick also.

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

A dealer applied Rhino Liner came in my 97 GMC. After having one of those drop in plastic liners in another truck and hated it cause most everything slides all over the bed I am very pleased with the Rhino. I hauled a lot of heavy, oilly, sharp cornered stuff and never did it peel or gouge or fade. My truck sits outside everyday too. I hate that it's so expensive but in my opinion it is worth it. I've not seen any others I like better.
I'm not sure but the Rhino's may be available in matching body colors too. Anybody got one?

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I used Herculiner about 6 years ago. The stuff really held up nicely against lumber, firewood, and weekly dump runs. Sold the truck 2 yrs later, but it held up well for those 2 years. only drawback that I experienced was how course and abrasive it came out. It could draw blood if you leaned against the bedrails just right

Re: N E body in here got Rhino Liner in there trucks??

I have herculiner on my truck and it seems fine.

Thing to keep in mind is the U/V protection. Drulack has great UV protection and will last even longer.

I prepped mine with 40 grit by hand and just took my time.
