shifting th 350 without vacuum
 

Morning,
How many of you out there shift your tH350s without vacuum using a ratchet type cable shifter? If so, as a daily driver is it too much shifting?
Just wondering as I've read these shifter are great for strip, occassional hoolaginism on the street
Second question; how low can the vacuum go before the th350 won't shift without it?

Are you thinking of a manual valve body?Anyways once you get used to how they work it,s not that hard,there isn,t a clutch to deal with just push the shifter ahead and thats it

the shifter has nothing to do with how the tranny operates. in order to remove the modulator and shift manually all the time you need to change to a manual valve body. not the best idea on a street vehicle. unless your racing all the time theres no need for anymore than a good shift kit which will allow you to have full control manually shifting but also will shift on its own when you put it in drive.

Thats what I as wondering. I am so new when it comes to transmissions I wasn't sure what to ask.
At what point is the vacuum too low to work properly? I'm thinking I'll change my heads to 180cc with the comp cam 268 I already have and wondered how that might affect the th 350 and my power brakes.

it will be fine. if you have an issue with the shift points due to vaccum just change to an adjustable modulator. in the grand scheme of things that cam is a baby and you will be fine. the cam will dictate the vac made changing the heads shouldnt really have any noticeable effect on vac. if your brakes are working ok now they should be fine. worse case you can get a vacuum reserve can for about 50 bucks and it will be fine.
