Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Custom built this cluster for my old 80 K25. Parted the truck out, and held onto it thinking I'd eventually put it into the Diesel K5. Have since decided that if I put a tach cluster in, it'll be one of the medium duty clusters.
Cluster has a 60 PSI oil pressure gauge, small fuel gauge, temp and volt meters, along with a 0 - 140 km/h speedometer. Has a choke & 4x4 indicator under the speedometer, and a park brake indicator under the tach. This cluster will require you to re-pin your instrument wiring! It will not fit any factory configuration. Asking $200 shipped for the full cluster, or $125 shipped for just the tach gauge itself. |
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
How about $100 shipped for just the gauge?
|
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
what is special built about it? No offense but sounds like a regular tach setup.
|
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Yup, it is!
The difference is in the idiot lights, they do not comform to the standard wiring scheme. The cluster is also modified to accept an optical speed sensor. |
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Does this have the diesel tach or gasser??
So the wiring your talking about is for a truck that has idiot lights and not the gauges to convert over? |
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Gasoline tachometer -- GM never offered a tach for the light duty diesel trucks. The cluster is set up with a volt meter, small fuel gauge, 60 PSI oil pressure gauge and temperature gauge (all electric). They should all work with a factory pinout from a 78+ truck. The tach is stand alone from the cluster, as is the cable driven speedometer.
The idiot light that would require re-pinning is the park brake light. The factory pin connected to the light is for the seat belt light, IIRC. The choke light I've never actually seen hooked up before, and the 4x4 light is powered using an external harness. |

pics of the cluster please...interested in the whole thing

Stopped by Ardrossan and grabbed the cluster today -- Totally forgot that this cluster has a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it -- my apologies!

Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
does the tach work? guaranteed?

Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
man I want this thing some kind of bad, but it is too close to Christmas for me to swing it. Good luck!
It is a heck of a deal for someone! |
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Feel free to make me an offer! Poor starving students are very flexible on shipped pricing!
|
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
bump! Offers anyone?

Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
I really like the idea of having a factory tach in my truck, but never tried swapping clusters before...
Would this be a simple plug-and-play setup as far as install, or do the non-factory tach folks have to do a bit of rewiring and/or other tweaks before making this unit work? |
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
This cluster will require you to re-pin your instrument wiring! It will not fit any factory configuration.

Ooops :o

Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
Rede, I PMed you an offer to make this plug and play for your truck :)
|
Re: Orange Ringed 80+ Tachometer Cluster
A stock tach cluster would be a plug and play. Make sure you get the correct year for your truck, don't want to plug a "volts" cluster into your truck if you have an "amps" gauge, or vise verse. Bad things will happen.
