California Quadrajet?

Question for the Quadrajet gurus on here. I was running the numbers from the Quadrajet on my '72 GMC and came up with something interesting. 7040511. As far as I can decipher, this carb was made in 1970 and is a California emissions carb. What is the difference between it and a regular Quadrajet? Can I rebuild it back to regular specs or should I look for a different core?

And no, I'm not interested in putting a Holley or Edelbrock carb on it! :banghead:

Re: California Quadrajet?

Its probably just a little lean. When you build it check the size of the main metering jets. They usually run about .072-.073. There are variations in the metering rods but I'm not familiar with the sizes. You may want to decrease the tension on the sec. air valve springs.
