removing nut covers

How do I carefully remove the black nut covers from my center caps on 2007 GMC 2500HD PYO aluminum wheels. Need to swap some and clean caps.

All of them I have seen have threads and back off with a lug wrench.

I would like to remove the nut caps from the center caps themselves if that makes sense.

Mine also thread onto the lug nuts to hold the center cap to the wheel.

Hmmm....sounds like the ones on my wife's S10....they come off the exact same way as far as I know. I just bought one at the stealership last week...it was $3 and change.

I am not sure about any other type but these are one piece units.

If the covers stay in the center cap when it is removed, you should be able to push them from the inside throught the front of the center cap. If you can't do it with your fingers, you can take a large/heavy screwdriver, and set it in the nut cover, then just lift the screwdriver and drop it into the cap. This is how I got them from my Mom's Buick.

If that doesnt' work you could do it the way I caught them doing it at Wal-Mart last week, put the impact on it and run it wide open and just go from cap to cap "NASCAR Style" and then drop the center cap in the floor, this knocked a few out. If you want them all out, just drop it harder. I was there getting some tires adjusted out, I let the customer who's car they were working on know about it. He went out there to say something, they were putting them on with about the same care as they took them off. They were forcing the caps back on without starting the threads and just holding the impact on them till they slowed down. The customer wore out the guy doing the work, and before I left, he had every manager in the store out the the shop.
