1979 Scottsdale build
3 Attachment(s)
I just picked up this 1979 SWB Scottsdale this weekend. It has an LT1 already swapped in, and just needs a few little things. I have been trying to figure out what direction the truck needs to take since I went and looked at it a week ago. The trim is in prety good shape, so I think I would like to save it. There are a few rust bubbles here and there, but nothing too major. Once the few wiring issues get resolves, I imagine the direction it will take will be more apparent once it gets driven some (or a lot...). I just snapped a few pictures when we unloaded it Saturday in the shop.

Beautiful '79, nice score!
IMO... it needs an attitude adjustment, drop that thing! |
Re: 1979 Scottsdale build

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
Yeah, I know, I know. I'm working on it. I think this will be more of an experiment for my wife. When I put exhaust on my Cadillac, all I heard was "What was that for. You ruined the car!" I can only imagine how this will work out. She has been pretty cool so far, I guess we will see how that works when heavy boxes start showing up. After getting the wiring straight, the lowering (and maybe wheels/tires) are next.

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
 congrats too!!
join the crowd on the wife deal... i cant tell you how many times Amy's asked "if" and "how i know" that the new motor is going to fit in there. and the one i personally love "do you know what your doing!?" "i think the pumpkin is gonna fall out!" :haha: what ever that means! |
Re: 1979 Scottsdale build

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
ugh... tip 1 - ship parts to your office not your home ...... :)

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
 at Scott. He knows my wife too well.
No pics, but spent the week fixing wiring in the evenings. The sad thing is, it doesn't look drastically different. The wiring still looks terrible, but there aren't a ton of butt connectors in the way anymore. Need to try to get that under control. I have also scored a 91 Sub cluster and steering wheel that should make their way in this week. Oh yeah, there are new (to me), black seatbelts in the truck. Loosk way better than the red faded to brown ones that were in there. |
Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
Looks like a sweet truck Jon. Can't wait to see your progress on it. I think the truck looks good stock. I would keep going the way you are. Fix some of the small things like wiring, and stuff like that. Then DRIVE it like crazy!!!!

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
Nice truck, looks like a great start to a nice project.
You guys and your wives...mine doesn't even care what I do to my trucks or buy for them...now if she had to drive them maybe... I am trying to convince her we need to get a late 90's Burb (since we'll be a family of 5 in a few months) and let me customize it a little...so far it aint workin. |
Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
My wife likes my little truck, for now. She was kind of "anti-toy" but is starting to see that I won't spend a fortune on it, and I don't abandon the rest of the family for it, either. Lately, I just tinker with it at night. The more I do, the more potential I see. Now I remember how much I miss having an old truck.
Jeff, you just need to show her that a Suburban is a whole lot cooler than a minivan. With 3 kids, you aren't going to have much choice. |
Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
I'm lucky there my wife won't drive a minivan. I guess that's luck, I just bought the TBSS

Re: 1979 Scottsdale build
Jon you rascal you, I knew it wouldn't be long until you were back on the seen. Someone has one for sale in DeSoto on Hampton in front of Big Lots, I am going to see what the $$$$ is. Not that I can afford it. Good score and I will be stopping by the shop on Monday
