rear end in my uncles 01
 
my uncle has a 01 half ton 4x4 highst trim with 111543 miles whatever but the rear end has been howling like a wolf for months now so we tore it a part and the carrier berings are bad but its salvage able i also know a kid with a 00" having the same problems

has anybody else had these problems

they are a 10b and are junk.

why didnt you change the oil at 30 or 60 k like you are supposed to?

either way, it happens, alot.

ya but its a posi and my uncle isnt very mechanicly inclined so he wouldnt know the differce

what does a it being a "posi" have to do with it?

if its stock its a gov loc and not a posi.

fwiw, they are an even bigger and more expensive turd than a open diff.

I've heard of several of these bombing. My buddies yukon bombed at 80K miles after whining for awhile, he was on the highway and it locked up, fusing the spider gears/pinion and wrecking the case. Dealership said the bearings were the culprit, who knows after that mess.

ya we got a new bearing kit and are salvaging it but it didnt lock


and right on the sticker it says posi trac

change oil every 50 thousand and if you have a posi you need a special additive from what ive heard this is a common thing on 01 to 02s and not a problem on newer ones

alright my dad was MIA yesterday so me and my uncle slammed it together he doesent know a thing about rear ends and i know more then him so i did the most so we got it all together and all we need is u joints and its done

i dont know the back lash maybe 40 thousandths does that sound right the pattern was all over the place because the bearing have been bad for a while

no i was way of i talked to my dad and he said it was .007'' i went and drove it today and it clunked like it slipped then grabbed a hold of it but its running and not whining at all i think i was on ice when i did that so there might not be a problem
