which one to look for?
 

I think the installation of an LS engine with a matching tranny is the way to go and thats why i start to get together all info about a swap like that!
My question is : for what engine should i look?
for a 5.3 or a 6.0 or maybe a complete car or truck,Camaro,Corvette,Firebird
or 1500,2500 Truck!
My goal is to make my square baby driveable with a better gasmileage and have
it a little greener (!) with cats and power!
Unfortunatly the junkyards that have US Cars and trucks are very,very rare in Europe and there is none in Germany!The next is in the Netherlands and then in Sweden so i can´t go hunting for parts or cars!
Any info is greatly appreciated!

no matter how you look at because of your location your going to pay allot of money for the swap Because of your location... i would try my best to find a complete car so you can yank all the harnesses and computers out of it. oh and i would go with the 6.0l :metal:

I'd look for the engine out of a wrecked Denali, Escalade or Hummer.

The Escalade engine is a 6.2L rated at 403 hp (net), and the Denali and Hummer engines are essentially the same but de-rated due to exhaust differences.

These vehicles are also exported, so I would think you'd stand a better chance of finding one.

A 6.0 or 6.2 would make great power, but you also mentioned fuel mileage. I personally would like to find a 5.3/4L60 combo for that reason. A 5.3 can make PLENTY of power while being fairly efficient at the same time. Although, Keith makes a good point about Escalades and Hummers being more readily available outside of the States. I guess I would just snatch up whatever comes your way.

If i can find a Hummer,Denali or Escalade for the price of an Engine/tranny combo it would be a shame to rip the heart out,right?That would only be an option if they are totalled!
Maybe it would make sense then to import a combo or buy a crateengine!
What does a good 5.3/4l60E cost in salvage yards across the states!
I have relevants in Florida,maybe they can help me with shipping and handling!?

I've seen combos for less than $1,000, but you have to be careful. Some salvage yards just rip them out cutting off harnesses, etc. In your case, you would be much better off finding the entire vehicle to ensure that you have absolutely everything. Although, I know shipping might be an issue.

Aren't Suburbans fairly common in Europe as limos, security and executive vehicles? Hollywood sure makes it seem that way. :lol:

If your going to export it, try to find someone that knows conversions. If you get a quality salvage yard, they will pull engine, transmission, driveshaft, and harness without cutting it up.

There is nothing wrong with a 5.3, but if you can try to get a 6.0 or 6.2.

When you figure in the cost of shipping and engine and trans, the price of a 6.0 will not really be that much more the 5.3. You should figure out what you really want, then go after that. If you think you might want to have a kick ass street/strip truck or just a reliable cruiser and are not planning on more than ~350 hp. If you want the cruiser get the 5.3 and save $400.

The car engines still cost an arm and a leg.

Hollywood gives a wrong impression on that! Reality is Mercedes Benz vans and Volkswagen Vans are very popular and they are all diesels!


I looked for Suburbans and Tahoes and Trucks and they are all very expensive!
I have to try the salvage yard in the Netherlands and see what they can get me!

yeap hollywood gives a wrong impression suburbans har only very common in Sweden

there is only 1 in my town 92 4x4 350 i belive.
a us car guy im buying parts from has 3 square subs, 3 crew cabs all exept for 2 of the crews are decent
both forsale both $12899 eatch and kinda rust so dont complain over there guys :lol: i paid $3572 for my rust bucket

id say lsx block if you wanna really do it. but for emission and all that a 5.3 would be my choice. back it up with the trusty 4l60e and i would imagin that you would be very happy. when i lived in germany as a kid my dad had a 92 s10 4.3l and all the germans loved it, and now im fascinated by german cars, strange how that works out huh?

So, are german cars cheaper to fix over there? I had a 2000 Audi A4 that I loved, but it needed catalytic converters at 96k miles and I just couldn't get myself to shell out $3,000 to replace them, so I traded it in. I do miss it dearly at times.

I´d really like to move to my brother in florida or my dad in new york but i´m here now and fixed to my surroundings!

BIG 10: someone fooled you on that! A converter for an AUDI A 4 might set you back about 300 Euros here that would be about 450 $ and the installation isn´t to complicated also!
