Best Hub's? Doing a full time to part time conversion
I have a 1977 K10 half ton axles....... Cop 10 corp 12.
Anyways I want to convert it to part time because I have a lift on it now and my front D-shaft angle is okay but not great. So because I drive long distances to go wheeling I want to convert to save some stress and I have heard of other benefits as well. I have a shaft kit for the np203. Got it used so I do not know the brand but it is the replacement shaft much like mile markers kit. Now I am going to need front locking hubs to replace my brass coggs currently in my front hub housings. Because i mainly use this as a trail truck and as a around town hauler truck I want to get the strongest hubs i can. Been looking at the: Warn Premiums Super Winch Premium Mile Marker Supreme Questions: 1) What would be the best hub to get? 2) Will I need some kind of install kit to put these in? I read on Warns and superwinch's site that One is needed but i cannot tell if this is just that the T case needs conversion or if i need a kit to install the hubs? Maybe a kit that supplies those 3 inch rings that fit in the hub? 3) Is there a real different between the three?? Thanks for any help |

I have owned both Warn and Superwinch and for the price I recommend the Superwinch as they are still a full cast lockout.
Nothing is needed other than the lockouts since you are using the shaft kit in the transfer case. |

Get anything that will fit in your toolbox. There are sooooooo many trucks out there that run the same hub, not really worth it to get the best set when you can get them for cheap even if they do break.

The problem is you can ruin a spindle or axle shaft with a broken hub.I buy Warn Premiums because they are just really well made hubs made for a really long time that do exactly what they`re supposed to.They are the hub all others are weighed against.

I have always ran Warn hubs or Mile Marker and love em both no major problems or complaints from either. Warn is always my 1st. choice though.

There is only $30 difference between the cheap plastic Warn hubs and the Premium Warn hubs with a lifetime gaurantee.

I run a set of mid 70's factory Spicers on my truck. I've had them on 4 different trucks and never had a lick of trouble from them...

Wow guys thanks for all the input. Sounds like My best bet is Warn Spicer or superwinch. I would think spicer would make a good hub judging by the caliper of there axles and u joints/axle joints.
I have a set of warn standers on my spare front axle but they are pretty beat and look kinda cheap. Not saying they are junk but premiums look like my better bet. I am ether gonna go with warn premiums or the superwinch |

I know it would be very hard to run Ford parts on a chevy, but most 80's 4x4 ford 1/2 a light duty 3/4 tons have a warn hub, even though its got a red knob in it. I'm not sure they are made by warn, but they look identical when you pullem. Also SOME eighties trucks, blazers, burbs had warn hubs from the factory. My dads '84 blazer has 3/4 turn warn hubs. These are usually painted black from the factory. I recommend the cheap warn hubs if you want to save money. They have worked great on my rigs back when I ran the lil 1/2 ton axles.

I converted my 203 using a DNE2 (doug nash) shaft kit in 1985 (74 transfer). I also got a set of Warn Premium hubs at the same time. It was my daily driver until 1998. Also saw a lot of off road use. Did not have a problem with either. I cleaned up the hubs and will continue using them, there was no sign of wear. Only parts replaced were the little allen screws which rust over time. I took mine apart at least twice a year and any time they got submerged just to make sure a seal had not broken. If you did not get instructions with your shaft kit pm me and I will get you a copy of the nash ones if per chance yours is one of the older ones. I think the Mile Marker ones are similar if not the same, the license has gone thru a number of companies since DNE2 went out of business.

I``ve only seen the Spicers as factory equipment in the early`70s and most are still kickin`.They used plastic knobs and so do all the Warn factory lockouts.The factory used Warn w/plastic knobs on the Dana60 front end.Iit came with plastic I`m ine.If I go to buy any I get the premiums.
