6.5's In The Dash?
Hey guys, I just got a Sony Xplod Complete Car Audio system for my birthday and it has some 6.5's in it that I am wanting to put into the corners of the dash. My question is will/can they fit into the factory locations with little to no modifications to the dash?
Thanks Benjamin. |
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I would think 6.5s would be a bit large for the corner and some mods to the dash. I think replacing the stock 4s are hard enough because of the small area they are in. The 6.5s could always go in the door, a kick panel, or the corners behind the seat

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I am putting the 6x9's behind the seat and I don't really want to cut my doors up since they appear to be the original doors. The 6.5's need to be towards the front of the cab because they cover mids and highs. Does Sony even make 4s?

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
Not sure. I found a deal on mb quartz for my truck, 4-4s, 2- 6x9, 2- 1s all for $250. I think to fit those 6.5s in the dash you will have to modify the dash for them not the be muffled by the cover. You could get them in the metal easy but cover may make them muffled.

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I would try and get rid of the 6.5's and buy the proper size speakers for the dash. That combined with the 6x9's behind the seat would be a nice setup.
Sony makes a wide variety of speakers so they should have what you need. Also, don't be afraid to mix and match brands. If you listen to a pair and you like the way they sound, then go for it. As long as they are all 4 ohm impedance. |
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
The holes in my dash pad have had the part with the holes ripped out, my pad is shot. I've been thinking about doing what Kenny did for his dash speakers. Mount both of the 6.5's in the center hole with a plate. I know that would work, but I would rather have them in the corners.
Pyro- I don't really want to mix brands because I like Sony and Alpine and I'm replacing my Alpine HU and 6x9's with the Sony's and I'd like to have the fronts match. Unless someone has a pair of Sony Xplod 4s that they would trade for my Alpine 6x9's. |
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I found sony has 4s, prices may vary but they are $35 from the place I buy from.
Since I can't get a link to post and work, check out sonicelectronix.com, they have good prices and great products. When I orderd my 4s they sent a plate to fit the center of the dash to fit the 4s in it. |

IDK, I'll figure something out.

You can buy a pair for 3.5" speakers for the dash corners for around $30-$40 if you are on a budget. These will bolt right in, they are placed well, and they create a nice sound stage up front. You could use both the 6.5's and 6x9's behind the seat. Use the head unit to power the 3.5's and and 6.5's, then use an inexpensive amp to power the 6x9's. 6x9's sound A LOT better when powered with a separate amp. They just require more power than a head unit can put out. Either way, a set of 3.5's for the dash corners would be well placed, simple to install, and won't break the bank. |
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
The stock center in the dash is a 6x9 if you want to put one there. But you could build a kick panel that goes in the floor and not permanently attached just have the speaker aim toward the listening area(driver, passenger head).

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I had two 6.5 mounted at a angle in the center speaker opening

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
Aaron- Got a pic or can you explain how you had them mounted?
|
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I think the stock center speaker is a 4x10 like the cab corner speakers...and it's 10 ohm if I remember correct...could be wrong though...

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
I just did it about a month ago. i'll take some pics. I couldn't get the 6.5 in the left side of the dash. I was able to bend the speaker holes out for a larger hole with a hammer to get the 6.5's to fit in the right side and the middle of the dash. Better then nothing. My honey comb dash part is not there anymore so you can still see some of the speaker until I get another pad. I'll have pics up later.

Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
You can't get 6.5's in the corners for several reasons, the least of which being sheet metal. There's simply too much crap under the corners for that size speaker. Anything larger than a 4" is going to be trouble.
Take the time, save up and buy a set of kick panels from Capt Kaos. You will not be dissappointed. |
Re: 6.5's In The Dash?
3 Attachment(s)
Yo!
6.5"s can easily be located in the cab corners. Mine work perfectly, stacked 2 high in each corner inside boxes I built and set diagonally. Attachment 526220 Hard to see well in this pic, but easily done. Attachment 526221 I'll add a sub behind the seat later. 6.5"s in the dash,...it'd be a real hack job. Kick panels or lower door panels would be a better choice of location due to the room necessary for 6.5" size and depth. Modern midranges and tweeters could be located in the dash to complement the bass from behind the seat, if it was felt to be necessary. I've not found that to be necessary in my truck,...just sounds fantastic. And just so I can show off my Kenwoods' in-dash installation again: Attachment 526222 Todd. |
