The wife's 1985 4X4 Silverado

I posted this in projects and builds, but thought I should re-post it in the general section.

I just bought my wife an '85 Chevy Silverado 4X4 that has been converted over to '90+ SD TPI. It has Edlebrock smog legal headers, 700R4 trans. with shift kit, 4" susp.lift, 33"X12.5 on a 15" alum. rim. I've never had a 4X4 before, so this is all new territory for me. I have plenty of friends who are into it, both on this board and locally, who will guide me along to give the wife a killer truck. Plans are to replace the glass, interior with black door panels, headliner and dashpad. I'll probably paint or die the carpet as it is new. It needs new front/rear bumpers as they are mismastched. We are ordering new glass ASAP as the rear has a slider and the windshield is cracked. With my '54 Chevy truck running TPI, my wife's '85 converted, my IROC coming with it, and the 5.7 motor sitting in my garage ready to be torn down and rebuilt for a Father Son project, I guess you could say I dig TPI. I'll post pics of the Silverado later.

Tuned Port Injection from a 1990 (speed density style) Camaro. My '54 has it, and my '88 IROC came with it. In my opinion, it's more pleasing to the eye, and has gobs of low end torque. No offense taken. Sorry for the dbl post.

Underhood pics to come after I get a chance to clean it up. The polished alum. intake plenum is dull and the wires need to be loomed still. I have the serpentine belt conversion in the garage that I need to install to clean up all those nasty "v" belts. I guess after looking at my IROC and Tahoe, the serpentine set up looks cleaner to me.

Where you at on the Central Coast, that's my old stomping grounds. Grew up in Nipomo, and lived from Orcutt to SLO.

Ah, ok. Never lived in Paso, but spent many a day in the narrows on the lake.

Wow nice looking truck I like it. Looks great with the lift and tires. I bet that TPI is awesome in it.

With all that great torque, it always surprised me that GM never offered TPI in these trucks in the first place.

My thoughts exactly! My '54 Chevy truck was the 1st to get the conversion. After learning so much about my '88 IROC's TPI, I guess it just made sense. The parts become interchangable and the basic knowledge of the intake is the same from vehicle to vehicle. Thanks for all the nice comments on the wife's new ride. Going to pick up some parts for it today from the previous owner.:chevy:

Truck looks nice man. I'm looking at going with a later model serpentine setup on my truck as well. I need to head to pull-a-part and see what I can find.

Picked up a stock rear bumper, sway bar, black interior pieces, and stock rear tail lights for the '85 today. Pics to follow.

This come to me for free with a clean title. It took little time to become a title donor and long bed trailer.
