Does your 87 have the original transfer case or did someone put the 205 in it? Most 80s SM465 trucks have the NP208 chain case, unless it was a 1 ton.

That said, it matters.

I have an NP205 in a '77 with a 4" Rough Country kit and that really maxes out what the front shaft can handle.

The 465 and NP 205 is the shortest trans/transfer case combo in these trucks, resulting in a really short front shaft.

While 6" is possible, it is better achieved with a different case other than the 205 for the front shaft . . .

im going to put it in i just dont have the time i just want to jack it up a little so its not a granpa pickup you know
