interoir light switch wire
I thought I would change the door jam switch that controls interior light and when I was taking off the old switch the wire fell in the body .I took of the kick plate cover and there is no way to get to it.
Is there any way to pull the the wire back out or am I screwed? |
Re: interoir light switch wire
It's hard to get to but if you look up above the kick panel you'll see the rubber plug with the wire in it for the switch. Pull it out, get a stiff piece of solid wire, and tape the end of the switch wire to one end of it. Then you have to get creative and bend and twist the solid wire until it comes through the door jamb hole from the inside. once it comes through, pull it all the way through until you can grab the other end of it with your switch wire taped to it. Secure the switch wire this time so you don't have to repeat this process.

Re: interoir light switch wire
Im having same problem my switches are gone I see same wires too with rubber part. I was going to just buy the switches and setup my own wiring to interior lights with a fuse instead of using the factory wiring.
I have one of these ![]() Did you buy the door switches from LMC? |
Re: interoir light switch wire
Mr .Scary what method did you use to pull the wire out the switch hole ?

Re: interoir light switch wire
Work a piece of coathanger (metal) fron where the switch goes to where the white wire in the rubber plug goes. Tape the connector to it and fish it through. It can be done, I fished the dorr jamb wire, my power locks wiring and my speaker wiring all through the same holes.

Re: interoir light switch wire
With some patience you can pull the whole harness from a truck at the boneyard. I had to pull the fuse block off the donor truck because the wires go behind it. Then you can trace them and unplug them or cut and splice what you need. Mine had orange and white wires, with the white ones going to the door jamb switches....

Re: interoir light switch wire
Hoplias: I don' know the year of yours, but this seems to be the colors. White is the ground leg for the courtesy lamp(s). Orange is the hot leg. At the drivers door there are two wires hooked to the door jamb switch. The other wire (brown) is for the key in ignition warning. Passenger side is white only. jim

Re: interoir light switch wire
A PO dropped the wire on my passenger door switch. The switch is there, but there is no wire. I spent an hour playing with a coathanger once trying to fish for the wire. That was the extent of my patience. :(

Re: interoir light switch wire
The white wire is the ground and goes to the switches, the orange wire goes to the light. Mine (white wire) actually runs from the driver door to a ground screw under the dash to the left, another white wire runs from there to the passenger switch. The orange wire goes to the light. I think I got that correct but I will double check and post later tonight or in the morning.

Re: interoir light switch wire
Any time, I'll double check in a minute and let you know if I got it right, It has been a while since I changed my switches.

Re: interoir light switch wire
I checked and mostly correct. The white and orange wire come from the light + & -. The orange wire goes to the fuse panel (+) under the dash, the white (-) wire goes to the switch on the driver door and a second white wire is spliced there that runs to the pasenger side. The white is a ground and when the switch pops out it completes the circuit to the light. Hope all that make sense.
