I decided to keep it.
Well, some of you know, my truck is in the shop. Im in it $1100, and it doesnt run. So, Im just gonna go somewhat all the way. I'll be in it $2100 after heads, then Im gonna order new injectors and glowplugs. So, Im looking at about $3800. That puts me total in it about $7500 since I bought it in January. I bought it for $1600. Heh. So, after its done at the shop I'll go from 140ish hp to about 170. And I still need my NP208 resealed. Both 10 bolts still need cover gaskets and pinion seals. So, lets see, after it gets back from the shop I still need to put about $500 or so in it. Just for it to be in perfect running condition. Then on top of all that I still have my interior to do, patch panels, and maybe a good rattle can. Yeah, so I just needed to let off some steam.

Stick with it, you will be glad you did in the end.
It sounds like you are just hitting one of those points where you wonder if the work will ever get done and the money will ever stop dissapearing. it will pass when you can cruise around in a reliable ride. |
Re: I decided to keep it.
How did it jump up $1,700 for injectors and glow plugs? That`s only about $500 in parts.

I have a set of 6.5 hi-pops with very few miles on them, like 6 months. They are from Diesel-Pro in Saskatoon. If you want to save some money let me know.

Re: I decided to keep it.
Tim's 6.5L high pops would work well in there. But, Man, that is pricey what that shop is charging. To save some money and keep your old truck addiction going you have to learn to work on these things yourself. Paying a shop for labor and their parts markup burns up a lot of money real quick.

Re: I decided to keep it.
The hi-pops give a better atomization that helps even with a lower volume of fuel.I have hi-pops in my stock`92 6.5TD.It`s 60 more hp,but same pump. You can turn your timing up a notch and cram more air with a N/A to get close to stock turbo power.EGTs aren`t a big concern with N/A.You could get a`97-up 125 gpm water pump. It`s reverse rotation.I have a modified for MFI dual thermostat crossover, too,as well as that pump. Was it just a head gasket problem or a cracked head?Do you know they sleeve water passages to toughen up the heads?BD does that, but I`d look closer.Diesel Depot/Avant Engines in Anderson,SC does great work.

Re: I decided to keep it.
The 6.5 heads are no better.I`d sleeve the passages if you want an upgrade.In`97 GM increased cooling and went from the 85 or 95 Gallon Per minute pump to the 125 GPM and used a dual t-stat crossover housing. These were serpentine trucks so the pump is reverse rotation, not a problem. The higher flow t-stat housing needs work to make the throttle cable possible, since they can on drive-by-wire EFI.I had put all that on my`95 before I went bigtime with a crate marine motor that had all that on it.
