It a 68 1/2 ton its got a 350 with a rod knock. It originally came with a 327 and his brother put side pipes on it? he put the 350 in it and he when he re-did the ingnition he said he heard it knock a little so he lost all interest in it. I talked to him and he said the cab is pretty much rust free. He said someone put a Cadillac rearend in it? Not really sure why. I forgot to ask if its a leaf spring or a coil rear. Is it possible to go from a leaf springer to a coil?

He wants 1000 for it. Do you think its worth that?

Yes it is worth a thousand[ in my mind] You say they noticed a knock when they worked on the dist? was it knocking before or just after? be sure the oil pump driveshaft is engauged if so, check the timing to see if it is close [ make sure there is no labor knock] That could cause some noise if it is way off. If you get the truck before you pull the motor be sure to check the flex plate bolts or the pressure plate bolts (if its a stick). If they are lose it will sound like a rod knock. Good luck it looks like a nice find.

Looks like it's been upgraded to five lugs, does it have discs?

Acuallyhave no idea what kind of tranny it has because i have a 3 speed laying around that I'm going to put in something. As far as the koror goes if I get it I'm probably going to pull the motor anyways and do a rebuild.

I see odd looking "waves" in the paint in the fender and door bottoms. Given your location, I'd bring a magnet and check for large areas filled with bondo.

Looks like a pretty decent truck overall, pending how rust free it really is.

I say it's worth the money regardless. If it was so shot you had to part it you would surely make the money back and then some.

Were 68s just 6 lug? As far as disc brakes go i have a 72 sitting out back that I planned to steal the brakes off of.

Yeah I just realized that too. A magnet is probably a good idea.

Yes, 68's were 6 lug regardless of 2wd or 4wd.

GMCs came with leafs & you could get coils as a option
Chevys came with coils & leafs as an option

I would only think its worth that if its not rusty

the second one doesn't seem to be hiding anything.. the first one.. there IS bondo over rust there. No doubt about it. I'd personally go with a truck that gave me it's face value.. After tearing into a truck that looked straight to me to find a ton of crappy body work and filler.. I'd just as soon buy a truck that was bare metal opposed to one that looked straight with nice paint now.

Not to mention #2 is a shortbed :)

That's why I'm starting to lean to the shortbed. I just hope it's not sold.

I only see waves near the passenger side marker. Where are you guys talking about? I'm on my iPod and can't really tell.

The bad- the body is rough ... the box would probably need replaced..the doors maybe are workable the passenger fender is bad the drivers is ok. The cab has some rust on the firewall and inside up by the top of the windshield.
Wow, finally, an honest seller! But... doesn't sound like a truck to buy though

If the blue one is indeed a bondo bucket... what are you looking for? A nice looking truck to roll around in, or something to restore? If you're just looking for something fun, I'd take a look at the blue one.

Worst case with the blue one... Crate engine, new front bumper, hood trim, and door handle... and ROLL in it. Even if it is full of bondo, it looks good. If you really want a restoration candidate, save your pennies and head out west :D

Re: Hopefully a new truck for the young gun

I just want a solid truck. I dont want one full of bondo, I go to high school so door dings and scratches are going to happen so im not scared to drive a truck in primer. Im actually thinking about going to look at that short bed. I REALLY want a shortbed. If its its as bad as it sounds I just walk away and plus, it cant be much worse than the one I drive now.

Is 1200 about what that shortbed is worth?
