1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
Let me introduce my self My name is AJ McKinney, I am 15 years old. RIght now my project is a 86 Silverado. I have had a 1983 Silverado, 87 Mazda 626, and a 87 Mazda Rx7. Now I have my 86. It has a rebuilt 305 (bored .030 over anda mild cam), rebuilt carb, and dual exhaust. Tranny has about 1000 miles on it with mild shift kit. It was wrecked on the front (which allowed me to get it for a killer price:) ) Let me know what you think. If anyone has a front cap, let me know. hehe |

That looks like it will be a joy to fix! Looks like my truck when it was in a wreck but mine wasn't as bad... I personally think that would be fun to fix. Welcome to the group.

welcome to the board. it looks like you have quite a project ahead of you. what are your plans for it?
|
My dad and I already took the front cap off so we could see if the frame was bent. It is tweaked a bit. Gonna get it to a frame shop to get it fixed. Then I just need a front cap.
Im just gonna put it back basically stock. Get it painted and maybe a small drop. 2.5 front, 4 back. And a pretty nice stereo. And whenever the 305 dies, a nice built 400 smallblock :) Gonna make quick work of the rear tire too. Came with a brand new 255/60/15. Also came with 2 more Cragar SS rims. |
your cab spoiler looks like it came off the late 70's Amarillo trucks...do you know anything about yours and the mnfr?
Also, it is a front "clip"...never heard of it called a cap...but you'll learn. :) :) It looks like a fun project...good luck and welcome! :) -Jeff |
Guntown must be in northern MS. Down by Pascagoula, they bend the hood back, get some wire, bungee cords, and a roll of camo. duck tape at Wal-mart and PRESTO!! problem solved.:D
Just out of curiosity, this is your fourth vehicle and you're 15? What gives? I'll bet they's some good stories here...;) |

It seems to me I said "I'm just gona sand it down and give it a quick coat of paint," But... One thing led to another and right now I'm lookin at a bare frame ready to blast and paint , Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, lol :D I wonder how many others of us started by making similar statements. :D So have fun rebuilding your new truck and... if you have any questions, they can all be answered here, this is where all the Truck knowlege is at on the Net. |

Wow!! That's looks bad. Hey put a '91 grill on the truck No better time than now!! Welcome to the board. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Its called front cap around here, whaddya expect from Mississippi? lol I have not idea what the name of the spiler is, I just know they were popular around here about 10yrs ago. Should I keep it or take it off? It wont be a total resto, gotta be ready by April 1, I get my license then. lol WIsh I could get that cap, but seems your too far away, hehe. I dont really like the look of the Burb' grill, would rather have the stacked headlights. |
Cool truck. I have a core support off a 81, that is a 4 headlight system that I would like to part with. If you are interested, let me know.
|
Yeah, I can remember when I said "I'm just going to lower my truck and inch or two...."
Looks like a fun project. You'll find tons of experienced advice on this board. Welcome! |

ryan, that would be pretty funny...ive seen 2 73-87 cabs welded back to back.. quite interesting..would probably confuse myself and wouldnt know which door to get in to drive..
jeff, i think ryan knows that. he was just saying that chris needed to weld it on there.. for shock value..not that it is welded on there... |
Welcome to the board. I think you will have fun rebuilding your truck. You will find all the help here you ever needed for answers to questions.
And yes, I remember me saying, this truck is nothing but a daily driver. I'm going to put a stock engine in it and drive it until the wheels fall off. I'm not putting a lot of money in this truck, etc. Yeah right. :D |
HA! I remember when I bought my 79. Already went threw the "im only going to do this" thing with my 78. I said "this 79 iis going to be a low buck daily driver"
YEAH RIGHT! Now look at me: full 5/7 drop with nice tires, brand new vortec 350, brand new BUILT 2004R overdrive tranny, big arse sterio system, new front end and bed on the way, new MSD ignition, sway bars, gauges, and all other sorts of crap I really didnt "need" :D But thats what makes this so fun ;) O yeah, and welcome to the board. .When you replace your front end, you should convert it to a 73-80 front :) |
I agree with Tom, you should keep it a 81-87 front end :)
|
welcome
|
Thanks for all the replies guys.
It WILL be stock no matter what you say..................... until I get a real job. then its on haha |
hey welcome to the board. looks like you've got a good project on your hands...and ive got another vote for a 73-80 front clip(or cap) they are just so much cooler:) and i guess only time will tell how big your restoration goes....
|
I agree with everyone else, keep it a 81-87 front end. They are the coolest ones after all. :)
