Lowered '64 trac bar & shock relocators
So I just ordered my 3/5 drop springs from CPP, but I'm cheap so I only got the spring and shock kit. From what I've seen it looks like I will need shock relocators and an adjustable track bar. Like I said I'm cheap, is there any way I can modify the stock stuff to work? Thanks, Barn-core.

Re: Lowered '64 trac bar & shock relocators
You can modify the track bar by cutting it, setting it at the length you need, and sleeve the track bar at the cut with a piece of pipe and weld it back together. That's the route I'm taking.
CPPJeff just posted a pretty sweet deal on adjustable track bars though, $50 for forum members in case you hadn't seen that post yet. I haven't decided on a good way to relocate the shocks for cheap, that's still on my list. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a good way to modify the existing components. Oh, and welcome to the board! |
Re: Lowered '64 trac bar & shock relocators
As MXmaniac indicated, shortening & re-welding the stocker is the cheapest option. You can also shorten it, thread the ends of each half cut (LH/RH thread), & use a tie-rod sleeve to make it adjustable.
CPP has a 'kit' currently discounted to board members that's a better deal because you really want the bar as long as possible to limit the amount of shift inherent w/a Panhard bar. You could do the adjustable set-up described above using 2 OE bars to end up w/a cheap, long, adjustable bar too. As for rear shocks, if you get some 67-72 rear lower shock mounts, you can tweak them so they function just like the brackets in a $70 shock relocator kit (the pre-67 lower brackets don't work well w/modifying)..... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=359399 |
Re: Lowered '64 trac bar & shock relocators
Thanks for the info guys. What is the difference in the aftermarket shock mounts? I understand their purpose is to re-gain some travel after lowering, but what exactly do they do? How/where do they relocate the shocks? Maybe I can't modify the stock ones, but what about just making some from scratch. Also how do I measure for the correct length for my trac bar?

So how do I measure for correct trac bar length?

Center the rear housing w/the frame. Measure the distance between the frame mount & the opposite rear-end mount. |
Re: Lowered '64 trac bar & shock relocators
Hey guys the relocation kit and adjustable trac-bar we manufacture are both a must on any truck that has been lowered to the point where the shocks are laying on there side or the axle is no longer centered under the truck. Guys i understand money as it is tight for everyone so let me just give you guys a deal on the relocators and the bar. If you guys need pics of an install of those shock relocators let me know. Thanks
