GM never offered a diesel in a 1 Ton or smaller. They only possible way was maybe a very special and very expensive dealer order to the factory, but even that, I very much doubt it. I always thought of putting a GMC Toro-Flow Diesel, that should bolt right in, into a 3/4 or 1 Ton. Better yet a 3-53 or 4-53 Detroit. I have heard of stories about shop converted Detroit Diesels into 1 Ton trucks used in Pa. coal mines. I had some thoughts of a 3-53 into one of my 1 tons with an 8-Speed Road Ranger trans, but realized after all that work, I would then have problems with the rear end ratio. I'm not sure I could find the taller gears needed. Without changing the gears, I'm going to guess the truck could never break 45 MPH. Being a Detroit enthusiast as I am, I once heard a 4-53 coming down the road towards me and couldn't find it. Kept looking and looking for a 2 Ton truck, but there just wasn't one around, till I finally fiqured out that it was in a '73 3/4 Pick-up that was riding by. Sure would have liked to talk to the owner and looked under the hood.
