Sorry, I've never worked on one personally. I would imagine that it isn't very hard to do. Should be pretty straight forward. 4 screws, 2 wires and a little time.

I'm not sure waht the factory size or power rating is, but it can't be very big in either case. Look at LMC truck or Clasic Industries for a replacement speaker. Both should have a couple options available.

Re: Dash Speaker

I replaced mine with a "custom" plate that houses (2) 3.5" speakers. It isn't hard to change out, but may test your patience. You will need to take out the OG radio if still in to get the speaker out. At least I wasn't smart enough get around it. What I did was take out the speaker and used it as a template and traced it on to 1/4" MDF board. Used the 3.5" speaker as another template to cut out the speakers in the MDF board. Painted the MDF board rattle can black and reinstalled it.

Can you clarify what you are trying to do? Are you trying to get the factory speaker out of the dash? What are you planning on replacing it with?

Re: Dash Speaker

What're some options for putting a speaker there? or speaker(S)

Re: Dash Speaker

Instead of stock you can put a dual cone stereo speaker in the stock dash location. If you don't want dash speakers, you can go with kick panel speakers or even put in a headliner with built in speakers.

Re: Dash Speaker

As my post stated I have (2) 3.5" speakers. I believe LMC, brothers, and the like make replacement speakers.

Re: Dash Speaker

red71c10 I'm just putting in a modern speaker made for the dash, where the stock one was at.

I just installed 2 four inch 200 amp speakers in the factory spot under the dash, yes it will test your patience and put you in positions you never thought you would do :lol I removed the radio, the ash tray and mount and the heater controls to get to it. Attachment 546903

OK. You might need to fab a bracket or come up with some creative mounting. I think when I did what you are doing in my old '68, I pretty much had the speaker sitting on top of the radio.

Any part nunbers or round about cost of that "upgrade"?

glider_6969 03-28-2010 09:00 PM

Re: Dash Speaker

no real part numbers. The speaker are 4" and I was able to get the speaker sfor about $50. The audio place gave me a deal because I also bought 6x9 for behind the seats (which are rated for 150 watts each), truck has plenty of sound. I haven't tried to take it to the max, not sure I want to. What I recommend is shop around.

Re: Dash Speaker

mine had 3 3.4 kickers in the dash
and 4 6.5's in the rear, i made my own corner brackets out of sheetmeatal (easy =-))
and the speakers were bought on a kicker sale for 250 total for all 8..
the second part to this is adding an amp for the components (100 with wiring etc)
and then a sub with amp (probably a JL 8in which is amazing.....) for about 400 ish....
entire stereo will be done for about a grand... but will be great for my little cab
