New guy here.. whats your thoughts on these?

I have been looking for a father/son project for me and my boy. He's only 7 at the time, but has inherited my love for old Chevy trucks. He and I want to build this truck together for him for when he's old enough to drive.
I have been turning wrenches most of my life and this will not be my first build. Let me know what you think about theseold '58's. I was thrilled to see they are both Fleetsides.. Thanks Guys! Bubba

That looks like a heck of a deal to me. That's a pretty old ad, I wonder if they're still around. The only thing that would scare me away is: no title. If you have a way around that, I'd say go for it. Two short fleetsides, wow.

No No No !!! That's no good for you and your lil guy !!! Just leave that for me... I'll look after those trucks for ya..

I'd did the same with my little guy too... We drove around our local country roads knocking on doors asking the farmers if they wanted to get rid of that old truck in the field.
At the end of the summer we had 6 Junky old chev trucks in the barn.

That winter me and me 12 yr old son built and 89 chev truck the scrap parts and some store bought parts and sold it that spring for $1200

My son worked on building himself a bastardize 76 with no box. (with some help from Dad) His reward was, he got to drive it out in the back field. He was close to 14 yrs old buy the time it started
GOOD TIMES... he's 27 now and still smiles when he talks about it. He grew up to be a licensed welder then a recent Currier change, now he's doing his apprenticeship for auto mechanics.

Doesn't matter the vehicle your working on with him. It's the time your spending together.

Oh ya.. My son told me something just recently, that he learned back then during his time in the shop with me.

He learned patients.
I remember he use to get upset when something wouldn't fit. He would get mad, and I would tell him to "take a walk, calm down, then come back and try it again".
He still practices that today and teaches it to his kids.

Enjoy your time.

Re: New guy here.. whats your thoughts on these?

I got an email from the guy telling me they are still available and he gave me his phone number. I promptly called and got his voice mail. Still waiting on him to call me back...

From my experience, the Fleetsides are pretty rare. It seems the Stepside trucks are 10 to 1 over Fleetsides.. Allthough my numbers are probably not right LOL....

I cant wait to get started on a truck with my son. He's pretty stoked about it! We went to look at another truck today that has been sitting in front of someones house for 10 years or better. Its a '64 SWB.. It actually looked alot better from the road.. LOL I didnt linger at it too long as nobody was home.

Well guys I appreciate the replies and soon as this guy calls me I'll go check it out and maybe take a few more pics. I allready know what I want to do to it. You know what I mean here I'm sure. LOL Thanks again! Bubba

You need to jump on that! If it were closer, I'd do you wrong and pick it up for myself.

Re: New guy here.. whats your thoughts on these?

Most of the Fleetsides were long beds because they were work trucks, long bed=more payload. If a guy wanted a gentlemans truck they got a stepside. I have always heard the short Fleetsides had the low production numbers. If you can get relatively rust free parts from each and the 1K in new parts its a steal. Even the "bad" one looks like it could have some good parts for someone with a really rusty one.
