Need tips for replacing steering wheel
Never done it before.
I have a Camaro wheel on it now, and just doesn't match the truck. So I scored a $15 original black GMC wheel off the board here, and refinished it! I bought a puller (excuse to buy new tools) and I'm ready to put the new (old) wheel on, but would like to know a few things. Do I have to replace any bolts/nuts/screws when replacing the wheel? And how to I get the Camaro wheel off? Just pry off the horn cap and pull it off? Thanks! |
Re: Need tips for replacing steering wheel
Make sure you mark where the old wheel is straight on the column before you pull it. Use that mark to make sure you put the new wheel on straight.

Re: Need tips for replacing steering wheel
OK.
Is it really just as simple as pulling the horn cap off the old wheel removing the nut and pulling the wheel and installing the new wheel? Is there anything I might need to make the horn work with the original GMC wheel from the old camaro wheel? This horn does work now with the camaro wheel. |
Re: Need tips for replacing steering wheel
Sounds like you have the tools. Disconnect your battery, pull the horn cap off, and take off the nut. Put your puller on, and pull the wheel off. Make sure you keep track of the order where each part goes, so you can get the horn parts and everything back in the correct order. Really is that simple. Like mentioned before, mark the top position so you can get the wheel back on straight. Good luck.
