doing a swap
so say i was to buy a 70 gmc pickup with a big block.
with front disc power brakes. 5 lug rear. can i swap the engine, front disc's and rear to my 66 ??? does the rear fit ??? and do i have to swap the whole front suspension or can i just swap the spindles and brakes. any help would be appreciated. |
Re: doing a swap
front suspension swap arms and tie rods, steering box needs adapter available for Captainfab
if the rear is leaf I don't know If rears are both coil bolts right up engine will fit if you massage the fire wall with a big hammer or you could move it forward a bit :uhmk: |
Re: doing a swap
its coils.
do i need to swap the steering box ?? im manual now and id like to stay that way. |
Re: doing a swap
you can keep your box , I think the pitman fits the 70 cross link and you may have to use the 66 idler mount to line up with the box. one of the other guys should know the combination you can also check to see if that info is in the FAC section

Re: doing a swap
I would first try using the factory motor mounts and frame brackets from the '70 and see just how much firewall clearence you have. You will also have to trim the top frame flange for both motor mount bracket and exhaust manifold/header clearence.....use the '70 frame for reference. The rear end will be a direct bolt in swap. Pretty much everything drivetrain and running gear wise in the '70 will transfer over to the '66.
