Air suspension on the street and strip
Are there any c10s out there running air bags that's seeing some street and strip duty? I got a call today from the speed shop I deal with abot a couple of big blocks and I'm highly interested, but I also have plans on doing a dropmember and 4link rear with 20s or 22s tucked in the rear. I guess I wanna now will it be a waste with air if I still wanna have some track day fun?

I don't see why you would have any problems running bags. The bags will allow you to make more adjustments then regular springs (ride height, spring rate?). As long as you have a good shock you should be fine.
I don't run air bags and I am using coilovers for my C4 DM. I also don't know of any vehicles that drag race and use bags. Not sure why they don't, could be because of space and weight though. |
Re: Air suspension on the street and strip
You running coil overs in the rear or all around? I'm thinking about a coil over rear but the only way I've seen to run coil overs in the front is the fatman fabrication ifs front end

Re: Air suspension on the street and strip
I am running coilovers at all 4 corners. I have the C4 DM so it's setup for coilovers or airpsring over shocks which is equivalent to the coilover. I have dbl adj. in the front and I will probably run single adj. in the rear.

Wildcat do you have any pics of your truck and set up?

Re: Air suspension on the street and strip
Can't run bags at the strip, NHRA rules don't allow it, because of what happens if you blow a line or bag and they deflate going down the track.

So static or coil overs may be best thing for a street rod that rolls to a test and tune from time to time.

Re: Air suspension on the street and strip
Ok here are some pictures of my setup. I just have to come up with some sway bar mounts and the front will be done. The rear is still in process (as you can see). I will be running a 1-5/8 tube on the underside of the top frame flange to mount the coilover upper mount. I am currently building a crossmember for the trailings, but I may buy the CPP crossmember.

looking good. Are you just now adding the trailing arms or have you run them before.

If you don't care about cutting/welding up the frame too much and not too concerned about weight lose the IFS kits aren't a bad option. |
