Fuel guage '02 Z71 ???

Comes on and goes off frequently? When it doesn't register I get low fuel message.

Its most likley the sending unit in the tank.

clinebarger is right GM has a problem with the sender card part of the fuel pump. I've had 2 replaced in my TBSS and I've replaced one in my stepdads' 99Z71. You can try adding Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. I've had it work on some of the Ford I work on everday. Check it out. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._sku=7080568-P

03-05 clusters are junk but 99-02 clusters are very reliable.

I was having the same problem with my 04 silverado, my fuel gauge,battery gauge,water temp,and trans temp gauge.I ordered all new stepper motors for the cluster and replaced all of them.It was fairly simple.Took me about an hour.
