2.5" drop spindles w/stock wheels question
 

I'm looking for some information before I start this next project on my '67. My goal is to be able to run my original hubcaps after I put power front disc brakes with 2.5" drop spindles on my truck. I've found some nice original wheels (since my drum wheels obviously won't work on the front) that will allow me to use the hubcaps, but I've read that there might be some interference with the lower control arm on 15" wheels. Is it the 15" wheels that are the problem? Or, is it more related to backspacing? Or, is a combination? Can somebody point me in the right direction? Since I'm probably going to stick with 6 lug, I'll likely buy a complete set-up from one of the vendors. If I can figure out the exact tolerances (both wheel size and/or backspacing), I might be able to get some wheels from Rally America, Stockton, etc. that might rectify this.

There are pics somewhere on here on where you need to grind on the lca (I couldn't find them). I am going to put my rim in place and grind a little at a time until it doesn't hit. It all depends on the diameter and backspacing of the wheel.

I used ECE drop spindles and springs for a 4 1/2 drop and had no problem with 15x7 stock wheels and trim rings

This link may help you. Also I had Bell Tech spindles on my 72 with stock 15" wheels and I only had to grind slightly on the passenger side.

I've put on a few dozen sets of 2.5 spindles and never had to grind anything regardless of the wheels I used.

Every 3 inch spindle I ever installed required either wheels with less backspacing, larger than 15 inches, or grinding of the arms.

That extra 1/2 inch is the culprit. From the mouth of the guys at ECE.."That's why we sell 2.5 spindles and not 3".

I have 15x7 Wheel Vintiques Corvette rally copies, with 2.5" drop spindles and 3" springs- I have only moved in around the garage and yard so far, not driven on the street, but no rubbing at all, turned to full lock each way. I believe mine have 4" BS

Now that I think back on it I had to grind the passenger side to fit some 15"x8" aluminum wheels. Sorry hope you will forgive me for the bad info.;)

My only issue was the tie rod end hit the wheel weight on the inside of the wheel. No other problems.

NC67Chev -I put some 2 1/2" spindles on mine, but I have 15x8 inch camaro style rallies. The wheels DID rub on the lower control arms, and I did have to cut the lip off of both the front and back of the arms. I believe that running a 15x7 would help out a lot if not completely solve the clearance issue.

my 15*7 77 wheels with 77 3" bell tech spindles on 67 control arms. I could not even roll the truck out of the garage. I purchased some 1.25" spacer adapters on ebay to just put on temporary until I can afford some tubular arms. (it's too cold to work out in the garage anyway)

Im running 15x8 rallies, bagged with 2.5 drop spindles. I did have to grind both the front side and the back side of each lower control arm. If your planing on bagging then you'll have to grind about 1/2" to 3/4" off the ends of your sway bar as they rub the bag. Hope this helps.
