carpet glue removal
original owner glued a carpet kit to the floor of my truck. How can i remove the yellow glue from floor?
|
Re: carpet glue removal
I would use sandpaper or a wire wheel on a grinder or drill with a dustmask and paint the floor.

Re: carpet glue removal
Acetone should do the trick just remember to be in a well ventilated area and maybe use a respirator

Re: carpet glue removal
Not on a truck, but when I bought my Charger the guy used that thick black "tar" or whatever you call it to glue in shag carpet. it was a PITA but i got it out using a scraper and heating it with a propane torch. Came right up. After the majority of it was up I used a sanding disc and the rest came right off.

Re: carpet glue removal
 That's cool. It was warm here today in south georgia and my parents are on the eastern shore of MD enjoying snow also. I decided to sand it down to almost nothing and then try a solvent. Thanks for the advice. Good thing I don't own a plasma cutter.

xylene solvent @ home depot

Re: carpet glue removal
If it is house carpet glue, you can soak it with water and you should be able to scrub it off either with a rag or scotch brite pad.

Re: carpet glue removal
id try water first then the acetone then the sander in that order

Re: carpet glue removal
I work in an upholstery shop, so I have alittle bit of experience with glue...if it's yellow glue, it's probably the contact cement that almost every upholstery shop uses...we use a product from SEM called Semsolv to remove glue, but you could just use low odor Mineral Spirits...Mineral Spirits are readily available, and personally I think it works better at removing the glue than the SEMs stuff does...if you get the low odor, you should have to worry too much about alot of ventilation..you should be fine using it in a closed garage...

Re: carpet glue removal
Nothing will take it right off but I have had good luck with 3M adhesive remover. You have to let it soak.
