Help adding a trans temp gauge
I have been going back and forth on whether or not to go with Autometer gauges or buy the white faced stock gauges. Here is my first question. Can I add another stock temp gauge in place of say my vacuum gauge and have it read the trans instead of the engine temp? Next question is where should I install the sending unit? The three ideas that I have come up with are 1. install the sending unit instead of the drain plug on the pan, 2. weld a bong on the pan, or 3. install a tee at the cooler. Thank in advance for the input.

I had a motorhome with a 4L80e in it and I installed the trans temp in the drain plug, worked well. That was quick and EZ. Next time you pull the pan have a bung welded in and get the drain plug back. In the vaccume hole would be nice.

B&M makes a trans pan drain plug kit that happens to be the same size hole/thread as most transmission temp gauge electric sending units.

I've seen kits to tee them off the cooler line too. I made my own with stuff from the plumbing store. I plumb it into the line that goes TO the cooler to monitor temp before cooling. Whereever you put it make sure there is enough depth that it is in fluid and not bottomed out on metal.
