Cam good for anything?
Ok so I know this cam is puny compared to what most of you are used to, heck its small compared to whats in my truck too, but I am building a 350 for another vehicle and I am wondering if this cam will work and what parts would help it out. I got this cam as part of a trade so I am hoping I can use it. Here are the specs:
Valve lift .422 int .444 exh Lobe Centers 107 int 117 exh Duration 278 int 288 exh Dur. @ .050 204 int 214 exh I wonder why the lift would be so low with that wide of duration. Maybe so it would work with stock valve springs? Appreciate the help |
Re: Cam good for anything?
that cam is what is typically referred to as an rv cam. good cam for a 4x4 or a truck thats used as a truck.it will make good torque right off idle and run out of steam around 5k rpm.

Re: Cam good for anything?
This is the Edelbrock Performer or Summit 1102 cam. It's sold under many names and comes in different boxes but it's the same cam. It's an old school grind that dates back to the 60's which means gentle ramp rates with longer duration and lower lift.
I've run this one before and it works great for a stock 350. It's the perfect cam for the stock compression and the torque increase was very noticeable. Sure the Comp XE grinds may make more power, but it comes at a price. These old cams are cheaper, they work well, and they are easier on valve springs and lobe/lifter wear. |
Re: Cam good for anything?
That is a great cam with the edl performer manifold and 600 cfm carb with headers. ton of torgue right off idle and keeps pulling to about 5k.

Re: Cam good for anything?
Cool thanks everyone. Sure enough the specs are the same as the Eddy Performer cam. This one is in a box that says Ertyl or something like that. Should work great for what I have planned. I was thrown off by the split duration and the gentle ramp rates like Pyro referred to.
