speedometer lubrication????

I am replacing my speedo cable as was wondering, should I put some graphite lube into the back of the speedo???? I am trying to fix a bouncing needle. Thanks for your input

I've done that before. I've also had it not work and had to remove both ends, yank the cable out it's sheath, clean it thoroughly with solvent and relube with lithium. I've also had to replace the buggers.

On my GMC I was able to grab the end with a pair of plairs and slide the cable out -not sure if you can do that on all of them.

No, I would not put lube into the speedometer itself. The bouncing needle is most likely a cable problem, not a gauge problem.

i bought a new speedo cable. I was wondering about putting some type of lube in the back of the speedo itself(where the cable connects)?

Ok thanks. That's why I asked. I didn't want to mess up my gauge.

Sorry for screwup. When you said in the back of the speedo, I thought you were just shortening the word "speedometer cable" and wanted to lube it to be on the safe side. Thanks for straighening it out, Stocker...

I was going to add to the post that I got the small cable lube tube at the Napa auto parts store some years back.
