I dont know what you plan to use the truck for but if it involves mud ya may want to leave them on also if you dont plan on pulling any thing i'd scrap the tow mirrors as well.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

I don't care for the look of em, but they do add a lot of protection. If you're gonna ditch the mudflaps too, ditch it all.

If you or someone that rides with you needs them I would replace them with some nerf bars. If you don't need them, then scrap them all together. My .02

Scrap em!

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

since you can't reallt step on them their function is not really happening. I say trash them. If you could actually hop out your door and step on them, I'd keep them but most are always to narrow.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

Scrap em. Get some nerf bars if you wants the step or body protection. Those are more in style these days and in my opinion look a lot better. Good nerf bars that attach to the frame rail offer a lot more protection anyway.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

I've got them, and from the time they weren't on there I got lots of rock chips on the rocker and at the leading edge of the bad, particularly bad at the bed.

If you take them off to clean behind them, put them back on.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

I purchased a truck with these exact boards and debated on what to do with them. I took them off and they made the truck look so much better. I could not believe the difference. So, I say if it is a cosmetic issue, off with them! And if it is a use issue, think about leaving them on.

Nice truck. The step boards look better on your truck than most, but I vote to scrap em.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

Since you are in Texas and don't have to worry about snow and salt, rust really shouldn't be an issue. You could polish them to match the tool box. I say keep them and polish them.

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

just polish all the shiny stuff... then decide after that.

I would take them off, but that is because i am not a fan of them. but they dont look to bad as some as that i have seen in the past.

I like them, on your truck...

I'd still get rid of them, but I'd keep the flappers. That's just me though.

This should help. I have a pic of my K20 with boards, with just flaps, and without.

Since you asked, take them off with the mud flaps. Nice tool box!

jawilder 02-13-2010 10:51 AM

Re: Should I take the step boards off?

The tool box was on the truck when i baught it. The PO wanted an extra $300 because he had just given $700 for it from TSC. I figured it was a good deal as it is a massive box!
