Automatic works....

I got the new transmission in over the weekend and got the driveshaft back from the driveshaft shortening guy yesterday . She's all done. runs great . Motor and everything has a completely different feel and sound now. I'm sure I'll get used to it. That Lokar shifter is the greatest thing since sliced bread !

I got lucky! The transmission came out of a 72 1/2 ton truck with much smaller tires and probably 3.07 gearing. I have 3.54 gears and 285/75-16 tires . I took it out on the highway at 60 miles an hour on the speedometer. I drove exactly 5 miles by the mile markers in 5 minutes and 1 second. It wasnt that close before I changed the transmission!

You know whats funny??
I just finished my swap from a NP435 to an auto also. But I went to a 700r4. I still have a few things to go back over but its in and running. I drove it around the block. A lot nicer then that manual.
Although it took me two months to get it all done.

Cool, welcome to the "slushbox club"! They are nice when pulling hills....no lugging, the verter lets the eng run. How many times did you push down the clutch when you stopped?:D

Actually I havent done the jerky left thing at all. Probably because Ive been driving my wifes automatic equipped car for the last few days while and I got weened. I got this all together I have noticed a LOT more left leg room.

It was a pretty straightforward swap. The lokar shifter made it a whole bunch easier than if I tried to convert columns. I generally work pretty fast on mechanical stuff. Its kind of a job requirement in the work I do so I get used to doing that with everything . Get everything ready down to the last detail and as soon as I have downtime..BAM ! knock it out! You know...Pull the engine on a friday and have it overhauled and running by Sunday kind of thing. Since I bought this truck in May of last year Ive built a new engine for it, gone from manual to automatic, changed interiors, done all the bodywork and paint myself, wheels and tires, new springs etc.
