More engine makeover progress
Well, after installing a vintage Offy intake with an oil fill tube and some finned valve covers my HEI looked out of place, so I decided to get a points distributor and do an electronic conversion from Pertronix. I like to scrounge for parts, swapmeets, junkyards, whatever. I have $16 in this stuff-
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...e/000_1151.jpg Distributor from junkyard that had a new cap and rotor-$8 Coil from swapmeet-$2 Coil bracket from swapmeet-$1 Old (but new in box) set of Valley Forge plug wires from swapmeet-$4 Distibutor gasket from Checker-$1 The Pertronix kit did bust the budget though, at $80. I mounted the coil on the back of the driver's cylinder head to hide it a little for a cleaner look. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...e/000_1156.jpg I also got the chance to straighten up some wiring on the firewall. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...e/000_1157.jpg Here's the finished product, the coil isn't on in this pic, but you get the idea. Much better, this shouldn't keep me up at night anymore. lol http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...e/000_1158.jpg |

man Chris, I love those covers. going with the Pertronix, eh? I've been thinking HARD about going that way too. tell me how you like it once you get everything ironed out.
by the way, nice clean install. I should give you some of my drugs! ;) |
Re: More engine makeover progress
I really like the finned valve covers. What kind of air cleaner setup are you doing?
Those Pertronix setups are pretty slick, really add to the look you're going for. |

Re: More engine makeover progress
Looks great:chevy: I've had the Protronix set up in my Chevelle for 5-6 years without any problems. I really like it, looks stock with modern technology.

Re: More engine makeover progress
I have a pertronix in my bb truck, but used a crane unit in the 4x4 (it has built in rev limiter). The pertronix is great and has never failed, I hope the crane unit is similar in performance.
