My New Addiction

Well here we go. Ive been looking for awhile for a 60-66 to put together for several reasons.
1.I dont have my lil ones for 2 weeks a month and I go outta my head with boredom. 2.I LOVE this body style and I always have. 3.I've struggled with sobriety for years and its much easier when I keep myself busy. Well, I found a 65 c20 bbw that i like and ive been aquiring several parts and pieces for it. Ive been following every build on this body style and have gained alot of ideas and a bit of unknown facts as well. This will be a slow build because of the reasons above, money, limited shop time, and on and on. I take pics of everything tho, so at least it'll be a colorful thread. :) Wayne Attachment 549817 Attachment 549818 Attachment 549819 Attachment 549820 Attachment 549821 |

Me and a buddy of mine scrapped a 71 for a bunch of parts we both needed. I got quite a bit for both of my trucks. :metal: I scored a buick 12 bolt all set up for this truck, a 5 lug disc and p/s subframe, a booster/master assembly, some wheels, and a new TH400 as well as a ton of little pieces.:metal:Attachment 549837

The box didnt come with the 65, but it was pretty beat anyway. I had one from about 8 years ago thats still in ok shape, so I brought it to the table today as well. :smoke:

Re: My New Addiction
Looks like a nice project and looking forward to your progress.
I admire you for having the wisdom in recognizing and taking the steps to stay sober. |
Re: My New Addiction
Thanks. I appreciate that. Everyday is a new day.... I just live life on lifes own terms now. I plan on pouring as much time, effort, and money into this as I have on everything else. It should be pretty impressive. Plus I'll have something to show for it and my kids will be actively involved in it.

Well the rust is very minimal, so thats good. I think this things whopped a few deer in its day tho. Front clip is beat to hell, but thats better than it bein a rust bucket.

Re: My New Addiction
My kids are home this week, so progress on the truck will be nonexistant...lol. I got the donor subframe all steamed off at work yesterday. Im gettin excited to start on that. One of my new welders will be here tomorrow night. :) Before I can get too excited on the 65, I gottta put a flexplate and starter in my chevelle too.

Well, it aint much, but Ive been really busy lately with kids, keepin the chevelle goin, and a new girlfriend :metal:, but I managed to start a bit on the teardown. I gonna weld in a 71 front clip and Z it probably 3" or so in the process. Phase II will be settin up an air ride system. I'd love to have a dropmember, but I cant justify the expense so I will have to do that down the road sometime. Hopefully tomorrow night, I'll finish up tearin down the frontend.

I also picked up a "temporary" engine I'll use for now. Its a tall deck big block chevy. 366. Eventually it will go in my service truck when the 454 is done. For now, it'll do just fine. It needs cleaned up and I'll probably roll a set of bearings and a cam in it. :smoke:

Re: My New Addiction
sweet project good luck!
never heard of a 366. |
Re: My New Addiction
Theyre an industrial truck engine. They used em from the 70's till mid 90's I think in the 2 tons, top-kicks, kodiaks, etc.

Re: My New Addiction
I see that your '71 front frame section has the big block motor mount brackets already. Now you just need the BB motor mounts themselves. With a better cam, a good carb and ignition, that 366 should do just fine.

Re: My New Addiction
Ya, I have the mounts. I also have the p/s pump and brackets. :)

Well, I got the front end stripped with the exception of cutting the frame. I ended up spending all day saturday working on my chevelle, and for nothing. New starter, new flexplate, and played with a lil shimming and the damn thing still grinds. Screw it. It can sit till next week. My lil ones come home today, so I wont have much time to work on it. Anyhow...I cleaned the 366 up a bit and started mocking up the 71 booster and master. I told you my progress would be slow. Its killing me. All I wanna do is work on this truck. Oh well.
On a good note tho, my boy should be getting his new dirtbike tomorrow night. Some motherless %@#* stole his 70 from behind the shop. He doesnt know about it yet. I didnt wanna tell him until I had something to replace it with. His dirt bike is his pride and joy. He'd be heartbroken and Im not gonna be the one to do that to him.
