A ball joint press is the best bet. It looks like a huge c-clamp but has adaptors to fit over the stud and press the ball joint into. Or you can remove the arm and put it into a hydraulic press. These ball joints are pressed in. I bought the ball joint service tool from HF and did my 99 suburban with the arms on the vehicle.

I just replaced mine. I couldnt get my lower ball joints out with the ball joint press. I eventally took the arms off and had them pressed out.

I remove them with a big hammer.

Is this the same as doing it on a 4x4 with torsion bars... I just don't know if they will release or something

I did mine with no problems other than having to make a shorter adapter to be able to get them pressed back in. I really recommend a ball joint press to get them in and out...
