Re: cadillac 500
A Caddy 500 weighs less than a 454! You can find performance parts and info at http://www.500cid.com/Home.htm

Re: cadillac 500
I think there may be some clearancing needed around the oil filter (RH front).

Re: cadillac 500
also does anyone know how well the sm465 will hold up

Re: cadillac 500
I am usure how well that trans will hold up. I know that there are very few manual transmission that can handle the torque of the caddy motor. I was researching running a Muncie 4 speed in my new project car behind a caddy motor and ended up choosing a TH400 for now, since my results yielded transmissions that were way out of my current price range. For sure a Tremec TKO600 will hold the power but they cost $$$. Might want to contact the guys at Cad Company with your trans question. http://www.cad500parts.com/

Re: cadillac 500
The SM465 is very strong. The gear set is pretty heavy, which lends itself to strength but it also stop you from doing any power shifting, which again will make the trans live longer.
You could probably use a BOP bell housing, but I believe the opening for the input bearing retainer with have to be machined larger, as the input bearing retainer on a SM465 is larger than that of a car transmission |
Re: cadillac 500
Talk to the Cad Company as they have alot of manual trans swap parts. Their Billet Steel Flywheel is a thing of beauty!

Re: cadillac 500
i called cad company last week on the trans adapter and flywheel total cost is about 500 but he said it is a direct bolt up and do not have to machine the crank for a pilot bearing i know they have everything needed for the swap. and obviously this truck isn't going to be taken to the track or anything but i would like to get on it here and there and not worry about the tranny blowing apart

Re: cadillac 500
just got off the phone with cad company trans will definitely hold up to the abuse

Re: cadillac 500
Mine was in an 84 C10 with a TH400 trans behind it. These are the only pics I have. Hope they provide some help.
You can see the breather on the drivers side under the vacuum booster is crushed in so that it would fit. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...yCamera016.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...farmtruck2.jpg |
