What are these?
3 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to figure out what these two switches are for?? The first picture is of the switch on the passenger side of the engine fire wall. The secound one is on the drivers side of the fire wall. and the third pic is of the whole scene. I think the drivers side is for the torque converter lock up?? No idea what the passenger side is. Any one know what they are?

Lockup torque converter.

Re: What are these?
EDIT: i started typing before b454rat's post was up so consider my post null
OP:am i correct in assuming that its a VACUUM TO ELECTRICAL "device" of some sort I can't really tell from the pictures. If so they clearly arent hooked up and you drive the truck every day so.. 1. does something not work or 2. you just wanna know. my silverado had cruise control and there are no holes for that device in the firewall so i don't >>think<< its that. if its for a lock up converter then why are there two? |
Re: What are these?

Picture two: lockup torque converter switch. |

Re: What are these?
Forgot bout that spark thing. My 84 had both of them, thought they both were for the tranny.

Re: What are these?
ha, hey that looks exactly like the firewall on my 85, its got the exact same switches, the first switch had a vacuum hose running to it before i did away with pollution pump and all the extra hoses. the second switch.. .i think is for cruise control...
i was told the first switch has something to do with spark control and also told it had something to do with my carburator, cuz the original carb had a electrical connection on the top part above the choke. but i have noticed that a difference in my transmission, but i dunno if has to do with that. |
Re: What are these?
i have a lockup convertor on my truck but that switch was broken so i took it off,not knowing what it was. can i buy a new one at the local auto parts place? does it hook up to a full vacuum? what about the wires? do the wires coming out of the trans hook into that? and if i do all this and hok it al up, will i notice any differance at all with performance or mpg? thanks and sorry if this sounds ignorant

Re: What are these?
They are for the Lock-up part of your torque convertor, This is how they are supposed to work. Manifold vacum to the single port on the end. When the switch has full vacum at speed (4th gear) in and 700R4 it locks up the convertor for a 1 to 1 . Gas mileage helper. 2 wires go down to the plug on the right side of your tranny , near the pan. Go into the valve body.
Note: Most transmission guys will tell you if you let an overdrive run around for long a period of time with the convertor not locking up , The fluid temps will go way up. ( my 2 cents ) if you have it , hook it up and use it. Desert |
Re: What are these?
i have a lockup trans i just dont have the wires hooked to anything... and i didnt know that till now..... is it badon the tranny?
|
Re: What are these?
since i have the exact same switched on my firewall,
where should i hook them up too? the passanger side switch?? should go to what? the driver side switch, the switch with the wires that go into the right side of the transmission should be hooked up to any vacuum port from the intake? the port behind the carb? the port in front of the carb? |
