Parking brake cables
Ok, so I have a 63 chevy k10 pickup, and I am having difficulty finding some new replacement parking brake cables. I had ordered some from brothers, but when I got them, the front cable was about 2 feet too short, and the rears were two feet too long. I believe that this is because my truck is a four wheel drive. Does anybody know where I can get cables for a 4wd truck, I'm not having any luck finding them.

Re: Parking brake cables
I just make my cables from bulk length cable from Tractor Supply.

Check with Inline Tube .com
I got a pair for my 2WD and the quality was fantastic. Even a choice of Stainless or OEM. |
Re: Parking brake cables
Try these guys:
http://www.inlinetube.com/Brake%20Ca...s/bcables7.htm I coundn't find any for my 62 k-20 either. The 2wd cables have outer cables that are too short. I bought a set of 2wd cables and made outer cables out of bx cable sheathing and hard palstic air tubing. I cut off the ends and used screw on threaded adapters from Harbor Freight. They work ok - not perfect, but got me through inspection. There is another company that makes cut to fit cables - I can't find that site right now. |
Re: Parking brake cables
DPI Drive Products International. WE buy product from them . Went into their shop and saw the pieces required to build the cables. The only piece they do not have is the ball for the front cable clevis that attaches to the brake lever. I'll have the barrel style installed instead. I'm building a 63 on a 64 Chevrolet K10 SWB frame.

Re: Parking brake cables
Are the ebrakes that different on the 4x4 ? if the hole in the backing plate for the cable sheath is the same diameter, (so that the expanding prong "spear" connector will go through the hole and grab and hold), I would think you can use the 2 wh drive version.
as far as long wheel base, you can just build any length of cable extension you might need. probably $10 of stuff from home depot, or maybe a connector from LMC or inline.com |
Re: Parking brake cables
Give inline a call. I took some measurements since they didn't have any for mine either, and they were able to custom make me a pair. They work perfect!

Hi. New guy here. Been lurking for awhile, but thought I could really help here. I have a 66 K10 longbed. I used rear cables for a 57 3100 shortbed 2wd, but I had to make some simple brackets to mount them. If I recall correctly, the housings were about a foot shorter and the cable part was about 6 inches longer. I mounted these brackets on the bottom of the frame but they could be mounted wherever they fit best. At least these cables are being reproduced, I got them at LMC. I hope the pics work.
