60 chevy torsion bars

I was curious if any one knows if the torsion bars on a 60 chevy half ton will
support a blig block engine. Or should i look into upgrading to coils or do they make 3/4 ton torsion bars for the 60 - 62 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks. Any input would be helpful.Thanx in advance.

Hell them torsion bars hold up a Big Block 305 V-6, my combo eng. & trans weight in at 850 lbs. on stock torsion bars. Is yours that heavy?

Exactly. not counting tranny, the 305 V-6 weighs exactly 100 pounds more than a 409. I took out the 235 in my 61 and replaced it with the 409 and there was no change in ride height whatsoever. There does appear to be a slight attitude correction however.:jdp:

That much is for sure! And another good thing is that after you do the switch, you start getting Christms cards from your local gas station owner that include pictures of his kid college graduation ;)

Post some pics if you can. I'd love to see photos of a 409 in one of these trucks.
