1972 gmc recall

http://www.aboutautomobile.com/Recal...1500/71V181000

I am doing a frame off restoration of a '72 GMC k1500.

I bought the tuff country heavy duty 2" lift front and rear springs.

How do I know if I have a replaced shackle.

And what do you guys think? Should I look into the grease-able shackle just for the hell of it and don't worry about it?

Re: 1972 gmc recall

The recall concerns itself with the front spring's left shackle stop being improperly adjusted, not the shackle.

The shackle stop is the L-bracket bolted under the frame directly behind the front spring's shackle that, in the event of a spring break ahead of the axle, is meant to stop the spring, axle, and frame from collapsing rearward which could cause the steering shaft to send the steering wheel into the driver.

I'll be damned -- not only am I surprised to read of an old recall like this, I finally learned what that shackle stop is there for! :chevy:
