1967C20 manual to power steering conversion
 

I am converting to power steering and I am having a little problem with the fit of the PS box I picked up. The 4 holes in the box all line up to the frame dimples OK. But the PS box hits the back edge of the core support tab.
I can solve it by grinding a small bit off. Is this normal?
Or are there shorter PS boxes out there???

The 67 frames dont have the bump in to clear the p/s box. Some people have shimmed the mounting holes to make it clear but that makes for some steering problems. Really you need to somehow modify the frame to clear the box. I cut mine out and welded in a section of large tubing to clear the box but others have had good luck heating the fame and hammering it in.

I recently completed this conversion on my 67. I didn't have access to any heat or welding equipment, so I thought I would try the spacer (3/8") option. That didn't last very long. It drove fine, but the steering was a little twitchy. It moves the centerlink over to the left, so the steering wheel is turned left about a 1/4 turn when you're driving down the road straight. I made some calls, got hooked up with some heat and dimpled it. It looks like you've got the fenders out of the way, so now is the time to make it right. Just wanted to share my personal experience. You will also notice that you'll have to trim the outer bumper brace and the radiator support to make room because the power steering gear is a good bit longer. At least that was the case on my C-10.

I got mine done with a kit and bracket to create the space needed. My 68 fram was not dimpled and it went right in with the adaptor. Dont think I can name the manufacturer of the plate. Could load pics though.

Any particular steering box to use on this conversion? In other words, any particular vehicle to get the box from?

I'm going through this right now. My '67 had factory power steering on it but someone has put a manual box on it sometime in its life(the p.s. Pump is still on the engine even).
I picked up a gearbox but it will hit the bumper brackets. Does anyone have a pic of a factory '67 p.s. Gearbox?
