adding a trans cooler
I have a 2000 5.3 silverado 1/2 ton. It never had a trans cooler. I am going to add one this week. I just need to know what line i need to tap into on the cooler in the radiator. No sure what one is feed or return. I need to tap into the return line, run that to the other cooler and then back to the tranny. any one know witch on i need. top or bottom?
thanks |

anyone??

Re: adding a trans cooler
the lower hole on the radiator is the return. HP line from trans goes to cooler, leaves cooler and goes to upper hole of radiator, then lower hole returns

Re: adding a trans cooler
I think we hooked into the upper on my 2000 z71

Re: adding a trans cooler
Top line is the return.

Re: adding a trans cooler
I have heard it is best to run without the radiator cooler and just run it into the air cooler.

Re: adding a trans cooler
Oh you can but i prefer to run both. The radiator cooler is the most efficient and the air to air just adds that extra cooling that's needed during hot weather and towing and such. A good way to look at the efficiency of the 2 is like this, heat a piece of iron with a torch, what's going to cool it faster? blowing air on it or putting it in water. That's why i prefer to run both, very good efficiency together.
