Help with $500 air compressors
Do anyone know about the Husky compressor at Home Depot? $400 sounds nice, but I refuse to have a POS compressor. This is for garage use, but I do see sanders and air files in its future.
Reman Husky 3.2 HP This compressor offers a solid cast iron, twin cylinder compressor pump for extreme durability. It also offers 135 PSI maximum pressure and air delivery 11.5/10.2 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI. It has a space saving vertical design that is perfect for your home, garage, or work shop. A CAST IRON oil-lubricated pump with traditional design that is quieter and longer lasting Automotive style changeable air filter Protective belt guard High quality oversized gauges 1070 Pump RPM One-year limited warranty Or do I go up $200 to: 3HP Ingersoll-Rand 11.3/10.3 @ 90/135 $600 at Northern Tool & Equipment Other thoughts? |
Re: Help with $500 air compressors
Looks to me, if you have the cash, buy the Ingersoll. No question it's a better compressor.
Compressors are a lot like welders, you will always wish you had bought the bigger one. |
Re: Help with $500 air compressors

Re: Help with $500 air compressors
They're both 60.

Get something you can get parts for. I'd spring for the IR if possible.

Re: Help with $500 air compressors
Verify the RPM because 1070 RPM is what you want, if the IR Is equal then go for the IR. They are either in that range or double which is more wear and noise. When I was looking for one there was always a good selection on Kansas City Craigslist. If you are patient a heavy duty 60 or 80 gallon that has been lightly used will pop up in your price range if that is an option.

Re: Help with $500 air compressors
I've had that Husky for about 4 years now, and I'm very happy with it. But, does that one say "Reman?"
IR used to be a good company when they were made in the USA, but I think they're all about the same now. If it's any indication, Northern Tool sells IR now. |
Re: Help with $500 air compressors
Thanks for the input. I'm going to suck it up and get the IR.

Re: Help with $500 air compressors
you could always blow the budget clear out of the water and go for a Kaeser screw drive compressor. I doubt you, or your grandchildren will ever need to replace it. plus the family and neighbors will be happy you got it due to how quiet they are.

Re: Help with $500 air compressors
For running sanders or air files or paint guns you want the highest scfm rating you can find. Also the bigger the tank the better. It gets old fast using the tool for a minute and waiting for the compressor to catch up. DA sanders use A LOT of air. You can probably find a deal on a used industrial compressor that will last a ton longer and be more than adequite for what your doing. With a compressor its definately better to have too much than not enough.
