Interior Carpet question.
 

So I went to lay out the carpet for the burb yesterday. The pieces are ACC and appear to fit well except... Where the rear cargo bed is raised above the regular floor pan. The carpet ends on both pieces and doesn't go up the riser between the two floor pieces. I called ACC and they were very confused. They finally told me that there was a metal piece that went on that riser.Is that true? I have never seen a metal piece on the riser (step) up into the cargo area from the front side. if its true, where can I get one? Thanks!

I have a carpet kit that's the same way. My understanding is that there are strips that goes at the front and the back of the cargo area to hold down the carpet. I think there were a couple for sale on here a few weeks back but I missed buying them. My burb must of not had carpet from the factory because there are no holes anywhere for them.

if you mean that 5" high vertical piece, I also struggled with it. I bought the heavy rubber backed carpet from ACC, They didn't understand what I meant when I called them, so I sent them a picture, (don't know why they haven't fixed the problem yet. I was told I could use a heat gun to remold the carpet. I also talked to the owner (president?) at SEMA in 2008, he said to make a paper stencil and then mail it to them and they'll make you a piece. ( I haven't done this yet)

if you mean the 3/4" chrome strip that runs on the top edge, I have it but no picture. if you need a pic let me know

The front of the cargo area uses a small chrome strip that is screwed down to hold the carpet, and in the rear the wider threshold chrome strip is used to hold the rear half of the carpet down.

It is not like the newer subs where the carpet goes complete from one end to the other. It stops just below the riser then there is no carpet up the riser, then when it goes flat on the wood surface it gets carpet again.If you do not find the chrome peice I bought a ss wood bed skid strip and cut it to the right length and used it. Does not look factory but looked better them just the carpet.

Well that explains a few things. The riser is where I was concerned about. We have the carpet hold down that goes at the back of the cargo area, but will have to fabricate one for the front hold down. The carpet that hoes on the main tub ( where the seats are) ends at the base of the riser with an unfinished edge. Is there some kind of hold down that goes there also? I will probably just get them to send me a piece of carpet for the riser. Thanks for the replies!

Sounds like I have a different carpet kit than you, I have 3 main carpet pieces, one that goes from the firewall to under the front seats, another that goes from there to the riser and then the piece that goes in the cargo area. The second piece has a finished edge that goes against the riser.

The carpet kit I bought years ago came with those extra pieces to go over the wheel wells and fuel riser, my burb never had those so I didn't install them. Plus they just looked bad.

I found a couple front carpet hold downs. It looks like that chrome piece mount about a inch from the lip and a strip of rubber goes there in between the chrome hold down and the lip.

That looks like a piece of carpet trim that you could get from any carpet layers supply house.
Since I'm kinda broke these days, I went a different route....

It's Elastomeric roof coating.....At $63 per five gallon bucket, it's far cheaper and fulfills the same spec as rhinoliner, linex, or lizardskin. The surface, cracks, seams, gaps, etc are filled and sealed with a flexible, paintable surface that will not scratch, gouge or peel. Hopefully, it will deaden sound and heat as Lizard Skin advertizes their product to do. I used what was left over after doing the decking on my car trailer top and bottom and still have a bit left. The camo is to keep the floors from looking dirty after some use.
