Accelerator Pedal
Does anyone know of a way to put a different accelerator pedal on a 67? I saw LFD's design (it is cool) but I don't have the $$$$$ to buy a cable and the bracket. Any suggestions? I just really hate the nipple on the floor design.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
There's a writeup in the FAQ to do it low budget, but you'd still need the pedal and cable. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...00#post1383300

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Yeah. Looks like FUN!!!! I was hoping there was a bolt-on out there that would be the simplest thing for me. But since I already have the 71-72 bracket, pedal and plastic I will probably undertake this project. Wish me luck...

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Cool, let us know how it turns out.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Does this use a 71-71 accelerator cable?
|
Re: Accelerator Pedal
71-72.....Sorry

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Not sure, probably but read the writeup and see.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
I read thru it and it doesn't say. I wil PM Putter and see what he says.
Thanks |
Re: Accelerator Pedal
Looks like he uses a '71-'72 cable in the writeup.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Well...I got the accelerator put in. It was a little more than an hour tho...more like 6. But I guess that counts the two trips to the auto part store and the trip to the local shop to use their vice. But end result is COOL! I took pics and tried to post but the web page keeps telling me they exceed the file size. I guess next time I will turn the camera down to "fuzzy" when I take pics. I ended up using a 74 throttle cable and had to trim it down to fit, then use a cable stop on the cab side end of the acelerator linkage. Works great tho, nice and smooth like its supposed to be. Thanks for all the great tips.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
That's great, glad it went well for you and your son.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
Ok.... Here is the throttle cable from the fire wall to the carb. Looks pretty clean I think.

He says it sounds like a racecar. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...26_10_0050.JPG Thanks for the info and now I can post pics. Right on!!!! |
Re: Accelerator Pedal
I thought so too. But too late now. How much curve do I need?
|
Re: Accelerator Pedal
I deleted my post about more throttle cable length, didn't want to bum you out to bad. You probably want a couple of inches of leeway to account for engine movement, but that's with a fixed throttle cable bracket which I don't see. Might still be a good idea though.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
What did you use to put the square hole in the firewall?
|
Re: Accelerator Pedal
Drilled a hole with the biggest bit my puny a$$ drill could take and then used some files to square it out. Took about 1/2 hour to square out streching across the motor!!!!!! Not too bad tho.

Re: Accelerator Pedal
I think it would actually be easier to do it from the dash side.
|
Re: Accelerator Pedal
I drilled the hole from the dash side so it can be done from either side I would think. It was just 65 outside and not too windy so I wanted some sun on my neck. Snowing now. Gotta love Colorado weather.
