how do i build a "cab stand"?
 

does any one out there have plans (or even a vague idea?) for building a stand that i can place my cab on to work on while off the truck & wheel around on casters? Thanx...

The one in the Goodmark ad with the rotisary is very cool. I've been seriously considering modifying mine to be like it.

My link below shows what my cab stand looks like, and demonstrates how I get cabs on/off without damage.
The cab stand is made out of 2" galvanized pipe I bent in a conduit bender and welded together so that pipecaps can be loosely bolted in the stock cabmount locations and then screwed onto the threaded pipe stands.
The bridge supporting the cab while its in the air is a "T" of 2x6s with shallow slots for the door weatherstrip metal, and a hole exactly centered on the bottom to receive a bolt "spike" in the end of my engine crane.

Somebody here on this site posted a picture of what they used. It was just a frame of a truck cut down and casters put on the corners. It might have been cut about 2 feet from the end of the cab.

I think a board member has some dimensions and pics of one he built out of wood. I built one like his and it works great!
I think his board name is XXL.

I just finished making one yesterday but don't have pics yet. I got all the parts for nothing just had to cut and weld it together. I got some casters from a guy at work and pipe that we were throwing away. If you have an email addy I can send you pics tomorrow.

these are all good ideas - THANKS!!! I'm not sure which materiel I'm gonna use but it looks like I need good casters... This would be a good post to save in faq for newbies like me. Looks like I'm gonna have me some fun soon! Thanks again.

Harbor Freight has good prices on wheels and casters.

I forgot to mention that I built my stand so that I could roll it over onto its back to weld and scrape. I made it deep enough so that it will fit my future extended cab project.

That's a good point...

It is good to be able to access the bottom of the cab. The one made of 2x4's worked fine for tipping the cab up on it's back and blasting/coating the underside of the floor

The one I have is an old mine dolly that my grandfather saved from his mining days in WVa. I think you could park a tank on it.
